Actually, what happened to was a reversion to the norm. Democrats need to win elections by at least 4% to break even, and it is even worse for the House as a result of gerrymandering. A lot went wrong for Republicans too. They were actually hoping for a blowout Biden win, because then they could recalibrate. Now they are afraid of their base.
