I sometimes think the problem is simpler than anybody thinks. When my wife sit in front of the TV and watch a show my wife, more often than not, will complain about something that happens, in the show, that is just not right (sometimes impossible). This is simple. TV shows are, for the most part, to entertain. That's it, no more, no less. The only concern of those presenting the show is that its entertaining the audience. We all know that!
That being said I always have to remind my wife what we are doing - basically, watching a show designed to entertain, nothing more, nothing less. Whether it agrees with our reality has absolutely NOTHING to do with the show! My standard is to point that out to my wife. We are watching something from TVLAND! ANYTHING can happen in TVLAND! ANYTHING! It has, again, nothing to do with the reality we live in and has a lot to do with TVLAND which has little or nothing to do with reality. Now, that is my deal with my wife. If we have somebody over who is also watching I don't bother if they whine about how 'real' (or not) it is. Perhaps the real problem is that them that watch shows on TV are not making the distinction between the reality we live in and the reality of TVLAND! In other words there is a class of people who have decided that TVLAND is just as real as the reality we live in! If that is true then our problems become more understandable for those of us that understand there is a difference. The amazing thing, from my standpoint, is that so few apparently don't know the difference - and whatever they see is the flat out truth!
I should have added that this is how we got Trump! Fans of his show didn't have the capacity to understand they were watching something in TVLAND and considered it reality instead. Its continuing to this day. Hopefully, in the fullness of time, they will come to understand what they did and why? (or something like that)
