The original Confederacy was vile and inhumane but not risible. The latest incarnation of the impulses that formed the original Confederacy - this Confederacy of Dunces - is even more vile and inhumane than the first. The passage of time has made their beliefs and actions abhorrent to all good people. These beliefs and actions are not only anachronistic, but ridiculous and the actors themselves just so many craven buffoons and clowns.

An article on cults (specifically the Trump cult...)

people used the stimulus checks to pay for food, household items, bills, and rent

That's a bad thing? I tend to agree with the idea that we should be giving money to people who need it, rather than people who don't. Increasing and extending unemployment would be one good way to do that. Or just give poor people $4000 and people who still have income and savings nothing.

So what's with the Trump exit using both Fortunate Son and YMCA as his parting theme songs? The former is about a poor kid who has to go to Vietnam and fight because he can't pay a doctor to claim he has bone spurs, and the latter the Gay National Anthem!

Do you think there might be a undercover prankster selecting Trump's marching music?

Well, I was being a bit more delicate. For most people it's just about nice young men enjoying the company of other nice young men in a Christian environment. I doubt all those people at wedding receptions are thinking about the details of gay sex while flailing their arms about to form the letters. And actually, I wonder if sex at YMCAs was ever very common. That's what gay bars and glory holes are for.

Back when I was single in the late 70's, I used to go to gay bars with my friends. They would pick up other young men and I would chat up their lady friends. The ladies liked the gay clubs to dance, but many were left fairly starved for intimate companionship. Which I supplied. smile

I woke this morning and there was no Tweet or drama from the POTUS. It's gonna take me a minute to get used to not having an internet troll for a president. smile

Amazing. Gay bars are good for any number of things. I used to drive a taxi and my wife would come down town and wait for me. I found her a nice male gay bar to wait in. Neither of us had much money and I told her that she was safe in the bar and she would probably never have to pay for a drink. This went on for a couple of years and, strangely enough, she never had to pay for a drink!

If I was with her I ALWAYS had to pay for my drink!
