From the same article.
Quote
“Salmon of all species very rapidly moved into habitats they haven’t been able to get to for 100 years,” says Ian Miller, Coastal Hazards Specialist with Washington Sea Grant. “That was happening effectively in the same season as the blockages were removed in most cases.”
Lots of good information and qualifiers about these being early results. Points out how the return of salmon strengthens the entire habitat and increases biodiversity. You know, stupid treehugger nonsense.

The bears and the birds, et al, fed on all them dead fishies, spreading their ocean harvested nutrients all over the inland forests.

Real fish fertilizer, that. Eco-logical systematization. Mudder Nature shore is a smart ol' gal.

That reminds me, vividly, of banding Osprey chicks in their waterfront nests. Mom would bring back fish that "softened' in the sun to make tough parts more palatable sick
Mom's were "unhappy" with our invasions!!
Somewhere I still have that recipe for Osprey nest soup!grin
I'll dig it up for Chef Gagger!

I suggest a gentle Oregon Cetacea reduction

What do a video cassette recorder and a financier for pirates have in common?

An acronym, of course!

A little problem there as Sea Lions are a protected species and they are multiplying bigtime. google "astoria sea lions" to see what happens then (we go down there to visit and its always interesting to look at all the docks that have been taken over by sea lions). I think I saw, however, that the Indians have been given the ok to kill a some of them.

Sea Lions eat between 15 and 35 pounds of salmon every day. Its interesting. Years ago it used to be that when a fisherman saw a sea lion they killed it. One would think that might cut the population back - nope, never happened.
