The most common definition I’ve seen (internationally) defines viability as the time when the fetus could survive on its own, about 24 weeks (6 months) in the US, later in some other countries.

Sorry; I forgot to save the link but I think I’ve traced it back. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fetal_viability

From what I read, in many places rights depend on viability. . Exactly. How can something that is not viable have rights?

Probably because it’s the only thing on the planet that is not human but has the potential to become one.

Ova and sperm have the potential to become human beings, so I doubt that definition is useful. The extremes of "viability" seem to be Every Sperm Is Sacred and the Jewish definition of graduation from law or medical school.

And I should note that’s not my reasoning, just my attempt to identify that of others.

"Viable" is when the thing can be snatched from the womb and made to survive.
But doctors know now when a foetus isn't going to be viable at any age.
The Texas law completely disrespects science in favor of religion and that don't square with me.
There's nothing special about babies. Almost anybody can make one.

Almost anybody can make one. And damn few ever become human!

Ova and sperm have the potential to become human beings, so I doubt that definition is useful. Actually, I have an objection to that. Neither a sperm nor an egg has the potential to become anything, until/unless they are combined at the right time and place.
