Fresh Air interview of Ray Charles I mentioned above, Ray started to go blind at the age of six and was fully blind by age 10. He said his mother made him memorize where things were in the house and how to do things by practicing as a blind person while he could still see. He learned how to cook, how to do laundry and other every day life things.
