They used the song in "O, Brother", and Alison Krauss sang it, but I don't know that it is the same recording.

I have not really completed my homework assignment but this song falls into your number one category. It’s a song that was very popular in Hawaii in the early to mid-1970s. Sung in English but still with that old style Hawaiian slack key style playing.

Does your post mean that you've never heard that B52s song? It came out in 1992. Relased in the US, Germany and Europe on Reprise records.
Do you like that song? I like the ethereal vocals aspect of the song.
I have not seen that video in Y-E-A-R-S. I forgot about the Adam and Eve cuddle scene. I also didn't realize it back then, but there sure are a lot of gay boys in that video. Back then I wouldn't have noticed because I've always liked guys 35-50. I just looked past guys in their 20s back then.
I have never heard that song, Rick. I really like the B 52s funky stuff and wonderfully weird fun videos but I'm not as familiar of all of it as I should be (please don't tell on me). Yes, the B52s are very gay friendly. They are really fun people. I don't know them personally but I have friends that do.

And coming in at number three is the song I have absolutely despised from the day I first heard it. Not only are the lyrics insanely sappy but the instrumentals are beyond pathetic. Especially with that warbling lead guitar doing his thang in the background. I present you with:
