The first song I remember clearly is the Beatles’ “Twist and Shout.” It came out in 1964; I was four and my sister 14. She had a little suitcase record player with an automatic repeat feature, a 45 of “Twist and Shout,” and a pesky little sister.

So…she taught me to twist and, as needed, she’d drop that 45 with the repeat arm raised, and ask me to show her how I could dance. I’d dance until I just couldn’t any more, and she’d have some peace and quiet - with a Beatles soundtrack.

Hmmm…I might have to cross-post this to Facebook, for her benefit.

C’mon c’mon c’mon baby, now
You know you twist so fine (twist so fine)
C’mon and twist a little closer now (twist a little closer)
And let me know that you’re mine.
