...as it happens, Los Angeles is currently in the grip of a psychedelics fervor not seen since Jim Morrison ambled his way down the Venice Beach boardwalk in the 1960s. Every weekend, dozens, possibly hundreds, of ayahuasca ceremonies take place in the hills, valleys, and strip malls of Southern California. So many people are now experimenting with ayahuasca (a psychoactive brew long used by South American indigenous tribes as part of ceremonial spiritual healing) that there’s concern the ingredients required to create the potion are being over harvested. But it’s not just ayahuasca—there are events for psilocybin, DMT, ibogaine, LSD, and MDMA.
Sounds like I need to book a flight to El Lay, stat.
I knew it was DET, DMT's big brother, because I knew the guy who made it so many any decades ago. (Long past the Statute of Limitations.) He nearly burned down his lab throwing used Lithium Aluminum Hydride in the thrash can when the final reduction was finished. That stuff catches on fire when it contacts air OR water! He had some ethylamine (instead of methylamine), hence DET.
You had to smoke a crystal, and it tasted pretty horrible. But instead of a five minute acid trip, it was more like 15 minutes. I had taken LSD and various other interesting drugs at that point, so it was fun. A hell of a lot more fun than ayahuasca, which almost always starts with technicolor projectile vomiting. So much fun, I smoked it all up over the course of a couple of months.
I don't know of any other drug that you have to smoke, is like an acid trip, and only lasts five minutes. So I bet their DMT was real.
I love the lie and lie the love A-Hangin' on, with push and shove Possession is the motivation that is hangin' up the God-damn nation Looks like we always end up in a rut (everybody now!) Tryin' to make it real, compared to what? C'mon baby! Slaughterhouse is killin' hogs Twisted children killin' frogs Poor dumb rednecks rollin' logs Tired old lady kissin' dogs I hate the human love of that stinking mutt (I can't use it!) Try to make it real, compared to what? C'mon baby now! The President, he's got his war Folks don't know just what it's for Nobody gives us rhyme or reason Have one doubt, they call it treason We're chicken-feathers, all without one nut. God damn it! Tryin' to make it real, compared to what? (Sock it to me) Church on Sunday, sleep and nod Tryin' to duck the wrath of God Preacher's fillin' us with fright They all tryin' to teach us what they think is right They really got to be some kind of nut (I can't use it!) Tryin' to make it real, compared to what? Where's that bee and where's that honey? Where's my God and where's my money? Unreal values, crass distortion Unwed mothers need abortion Kind of brings to mind ol' young King Tut (He did it now) Tried to make it real, compared to what?! We have an annual mushroom festival in our neck at the end of every October at a county park named Mount Pisgah. I’ve never been to it before and I am going to miss it yet again as it is sold out. Ya snooze ya lose. I’ve only gone shrooming a few times in our woods, always getting chanterelles which are plentiful.
The following is a link to the festival. I shall try to attend it next year as this sounds like something I could get interested in. And hopefully by then this damn Covid business will be in the rearview mirror.
I suppose my previous post should’ve gone into the Fungus Amungus thread. I have caned.myself 30 times seeking forgiveness. Meanwhile, I have an old time friend back in Hawaii named Wey Lin Fung. Seriously!
So of course you know where that name went when he showed up.
Hey, starting to get the hang of this emoji thing. I shall try not to go overboard with it.
Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.
Many Universities have mycology societies usually with a real Mycology professor for guidance. They have lectures and collecting field trips in season, which is probably much longer than our here. We have a cabin in Maine on a lake, and we have never in 30 years seen such a proliferation of all sorts of mushroom. Many are newer variants of old friends Bolets, but its a very good idea to check in with the local mycology groups as they know of new arrivals that look similar to old edible, but are NOT. None were lethal bad actors, but they warned about having enthusiastic exciting bowel experiences. Im not so up for such excitement!
