It's enshrined everywhere that killing someone in self-defense is pretty much okay.

Yeah, but I still have a really hard time calling this self-defense.

Yes, but…I don’t have to agree. I’m not involved with the case in any way (which is why I try not to get involved in legal cases; it’s impossible for me to know all, or even most, of the facts.)

Still, to me, if person A shoots (or attempts to to shoot) person B, Person B was provoked and could claim self-defense.

As I said, my opinion on this is worth diddly. But if I was the defendant in that trial, and I got off, I’d consider changing my name and moving far away.,

Rittenhouse judge unloads wild rant about Black jurors after jury asks unrelated question

If the trial is too much for the judge to handle, mebbe he should recuse himsefl from the case. Just a thought... smile

I don't like anything about the ugly and unnecessary situation.

In the heat of the event, words were spoken, tempers flared, people died.

Just as in the Trayvon Martin Case, about half the folks feel one way and half feel the other.

The 1st-degree murder charges are unlikely to stand. Mostly, regardless of what happens or why I see no point in locking the boy up for an extended period of time. He's guilty of killing people. That will haunt him the rest of his days. Is it justice to also destroy his life?

I can’t answer as to whether it’s justice- but the only person who destroyed his life was him. (Grammatical correction requested.)

And maybe those who influenced him, but they’re not on trial.

And that damage is already done. Society doesn't need to step in and add a flaying, or a hanging, or a lifetime sentence. Some places might stone him to death or cut off his hands.

But we don't live in one of those places.

And whether or not the damage was already done doesn’t matter. The purpose of a trial is to decide on whether judgement was done to others, not to oneself.

And then you get into the whole punishment-or-rehabilitation thing.

I don’t think there’s a chance in hell he’ll get the lifetime sentence you refer to.

Personally, I think he should get a minimum of three years. He took two lives for pete's sake. When Ricky Schroder the actor paid his bond to get him out of jail, Kyle acted cocky and arrogant like he was some hero.

Maybe in the rightwing community he's a hero for killing two woke whites supporting black lives matter, but for decent folks, Kyle is no hero.
