Murder 1 was never gonna fly. Remember Trayvon Martin? They couldn't even pin a murder 2 charge on Zimmerman, and Ritterhouse had witnesses who saw the crowd attacking him and proving his self-defense claim.
If anyone is to blame for this it is overzealous prosecutors who want more than the judge and jury are liable to deliver.
