Hope you all had a happy Thanksgiving. I’m thinking along the same lines as you. History hasn’t been kind to a sitting president who is primary challenged. Kefauver challenged Truman in 1952, Truman dropped out, McCarthy challenged LBJ in 1968, LBJ dropped out. Then Teddy Kennedy challenged Carter in 1980, Carter lost, Buchanan challenged G.H.W. Bush in 1992 and Bush lost. I may have forgotten one. If Biden does run and is challenged in the primaries, that may be bad news for the Democrats as the party with a sitting president who is challenged seems to always lose. Perhaps it’s because the sitting president was weak and vulnerable to begin with.
Like you, I’m waiting to see what the future holds and who will be what. It’s long past the time for a new generation to take over. For the best or for the worst, I’m ready to see all these old foggies depart.
