When i was listening to old 70s songs (Harry Chapin, Gordon Lightfoot), YouTube suggested this song:
The lyrics to this song are fantastic. It's about some villagers jelly that some people who live up on a mountain have a "buried treasure" which is a rock that is inscribed with "Peace on Earth." The villagers only find this out when they go up the mountain and kill the mountain people. The villagers then turn over the rock and read what it says.

In the Fresh Air interview of Ray Charles I mentioned above, Ray started to go blind at the age of six and was fully blind by age 10. He said his mother made him memorize where things were in the house and how to do things by practicing as a blind person while he could still see. He learned how to cook, how to do laundry and other every day life things.

How the song relates to the movie, I don't have a clue, I've never seen the movie. I will go out on a limb and say there is no connection between the two...from what I have heard about the movie.
And I see we might have to start a Harry Chaplin thread…who knew there’d be so many Chaplin fans in such a small space.
Greger, my apologies in not thinking of your hearing difficulties when I started this thread. To be honest, I have a very difficult time communicating with one of my sisters - not because of her hearing impairment, but because I forget about it and forget to adjust my listening/speaking accordingly.
Then again I’d bet your memory is pretty good.

I think maybe Billy Jack was supposed to embody the “One Tin Soldier.†His character was one of a few “Magic Indians,†a parallel to the “Magic Negro†category - the minority whose task is to save the day.
As for songs not related to movies, I’ll give $5 and a homemade apple pie to anyone who can justify “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on my Head†to “Butch Cassidy†in anyway, shape, or form. It was clearly meant only as a promo for the movie; there was no other connection at all.
