Yep, I always thought Nixon to be a bit odd. Much of what he was suggesting the Republicans weren't for, even then. He, not unlike some other presidents, got to feeling as if he could do anything and get away with it. (that's really the only thing that might explain some of the stupids he got involved in)
I also, pretty much, agree with you on the next election. The fault is, obviously, that the Dems have absolutely no interest in winning! They love running their mouths as long as its not gonna upset anybody. I guess they all just want to be loved (I think that's how it goes).
Then, again, perhaps they might wake up and understand that the Repubicans, every day, lay into them. The dems currently retaliate by silence and a little smile that tells us all that they understand what is going on but refuse to behave even slightly like that.
One can only wonder...........
