Like I said, my future is so bright I need shades.

You don't have a future at all when you dwell in the past or on nothing but negatives

Donald Trump is a part of history right now. As is this years-old thread and your sad commentary attempting to attack me for some reason or another.

Discussion of actual politics seems to be discouraged here these days, as is dissent of any sort. Thoughtful commentary is followed with jokes, songs, puns, and derision.

Not the sort of place I think this was meant to be.

Every attempt is being made to prosecute DJT and his band of thieves In the courts. I don't have an issue with the prosecutions. What I have an issue with is the politicization of it.

It distracts from real issues.

Bashing conservatives and republicans is as easy as clubbing baby seals and not as fun to me as it is to others. They are stupid, beneath my contempt. and I absolutely don't give a flying f*ck what they say or do.

What I care about is liberals and progressives winning elections. I care about actual political strategy and real issues.

Trump does one thing really well - getting on the news. He has failed at virtually anything else that he has touched. Daddy gave him a half a billion which resulted in at least 6 bankruptcies. His university was a scam, he doesn't pay his bills, he failed at selling ties, wine, steaks, etc. Apparently he has never made a dime from any golf clubs, etc. He has been married 3 or 4 times, caught with prostitutes, bragged, on TV, about grabbing female parts, and has huge debt.

The man is, obviously, interesting. I keep on wondering how he can stay so popular for so many. They are, again obviously, supporting a man who is, quite possibly, the biggest businessman failure in the history of our nation! In spite of all the above the media gives him the exposure he needs because they make money off of him. We should all remember that TV is responsible for giving us Trump. TV put him on a show that proved to many that he was the greatest businessman ever. Those that admire are truly strange. They not only believe lies but dote on them. In the case of vaccines, for instance, they are actually dying to support their Lord and Master. Even thought he, himself, has been vaccinated and boosted. None of this makes any kind of logical sense.

I had a theory once long ago, that when Trump occupied all the breathable air in media, he would, as Potentate Plenipotentiary, King, Lord and Savior of America, move on to the colder pastures of interstellar realms and occupy the whole vacuum of space with his delusions of grandeur .... but alas .... such was not the case. Instead after losing the election and claiming he actually won, he, and his conspiratorial cronies, are working on monopolizing every inch of print space with his delusions of winning and their demonstrably proven lies of election fraud.

Yabbut, you fail to understand the “magic” of Donald Trump. He appeals to many in the heartland, especially those from smaller towns that are undergoing very rough times these days. Trump has been able to bamboozle these people into thinking he is their savior and Messiah. He blames all of their problems on non-white, non true American foreigners, He promises to keep their coal industries alive, keep petroleum being pumped, enshrine their firearms within the Second Amendment, and promises to move everything back to the 1950s. When America was great!

This plays well with that crowd as they are desperate. But he actually doesn’t give a flying flock about them but rather only if they will vote for him, worship him, and adore him. Oh… and send him money. Do you think he would ever invite one of these commoners to visit him at Mar-a-Lago? Highly unlikely. Since Trump has no shame he can use them and he certainly does. Plays them like a fiddle then stiffs them as he has many other people all his life. Oh, and he delivers anti-abortion judges to the Supreme Court.

For DJT It’s all transactional.

I could go on but I have said enough.

Getting back to the original point of this thread... What we are dealing with, really, from impeachment, elections, through insurrection, to today, is fallout. Fallout from failing to "take care of business".

The Mueller Report laid out in fairly stark terms the corruption and intent of the 2016 Trump campaign in coordinating with Russia. We can quibble about terminology and extent, but there is no question about 2 things: they had a commonality of interests (defeating Hillary Clinton), and taking advantage of each other's operations. In some cases that involved direct collusion - giving internal polling data to Russian intelligence, making public appeals for Russian assistance - but mostly it involved accepting the effects of the other's operations. There was certainly intent within the Trump campaign to coordinate. It really boiled down to effectiveness. Illegalities, however, did abound.

The more important aspect of the Mueller Report, however, was in the obstruction. There specific evidence of corrupt intent and actions - the primary elements of obstruction - were laid out in detail. There is no doubt, in really anyone's mind, that sufficient evidence was extant for a prosecutable case. What happened thereafter was a spectacular "dropping of the ball". That fumble is what continues to reverberate today. The failure of the impeachment effort led to a circling of the Republican wagons, and an emboldened Trump to greater efforts to corrupt the system through pardons, intimidation, and further obstruction activities. The "us and them" mentality of the parties, then, solidified positions and obscured a multitude of sins.

The crest of the pattern was the January 6 insurrection, but the process that culminated then is still very much in operation today. It has metastasized throughout the body politic, justifying unprecedented political obstructionism, blatant dishonesty, excusal of reprehensible conduct, and a continued mistrust by party membership in the very foundation of our republic - free and fair elections. All conflicts are now existential threats.

If only we had behaved normally during and after the 2016 election, we could have put ourselves on solid footing. Maybe it was already too late by then (I suspect so), but we are certainly in a world of hurt now. Even the likely comeuppance for Trump, his kin, and their ilk will be insufficient to obliterate the stain. Nothing will be acceptable to 40% of either base, and the fragility of our union will be ever exacerbated. I don't know what path we're on, toward ruin or redemption, but it is assuredly rocky.

A well reasoned argument is like a diamond: impervious to corruption and crystal clear - and infinitely rarer.

Here, as elsewhere, people are outraged at what feels like a rigged game -- an economy that won't respond, a democracy that won't listen, and a financial sector that holds all the cards. - Robert Reich

There are beginning suggestions that the house just may charge Trump with a variety of crimes. If they can nail him on just one he can't run. I know, even after I have slammed the Dems every which way, if they can swing that one I will apologize for each and every anti-Dem thought!

I also now claim the title of best wishful thinker!!!
