The Justice Department came out swinging this afternoon, leveling an indictment for seditious conspiracy against 11 members of the Oath Keepers, including head Oaf Stewart Rhodes. According to the DOJ, the defendants conspired to "oppose by force the lawful transfer of presidential power." So, not so much with that bullshit they were flogging about descending on DC to be Roger Stone's body guards.

The indictment alleges that the defendants assembled an "arsenal" of guns, which they stored at a Comfort Inn in Arlington guarded by a "Quick Reaction Force" of militia members, ready to rush into the Capitol if their plot to overthrow the government looked like it might work. Because of DC's strict gun laws, they only brought in the legal stuff, "including knives, batons, camouflaged combat uniforms, tactical vests with plates, helmets, eye protection and radio equipment."

They then marched on Capitol in a stack formation, which is kinda strong evidence that somebody conspired with somebody to do something. Plus there's the whole business of them wearing damn uniforms.

The government has got its hands on a mountain of Signal messages - presumably from one of the witnesses who flipped, not because they broke the encryption - replete with references to "civil war" and "unconventional warfare" and the upcoming "bloody fight" and a "bloody, massively bloody revolution."

Head Oaf Stewart Rhodes went Yale Law School, so he knew that the way to defeat government snoopers was to attach a photo of his handwritten instructions with "messages in cursive to eliminate digital reads" (which is humorous like the indictment's reference to conspirators bobbing and weaving through DC traffic in golf carts trying to get to the Capitol with the s***-ton of guns and ammo, they were planning on bringing over on the Potomac in boats and cars - and they intended to kill a whole lot of people.)

As for the whole "sedition" thing, they very clearly intended to overthrow the government. That dumbass Rhodes didn't even use cursive when he messaged the entire "Leadership Channel" that "Pence is doing nothing. As I predicted."

It also seems that the Dems are going to give us live activity in their search for the truth about 1/6 and they also seem to be hinting that they have the goods. We will see. Getting it all on TV will be great if it works.

I also noted that somebody in a state has offered up a law outlawing flat out lies. One can only wonder if that can get done. There will have to be a lot of hoops to jump through on this one.

These sedition charges might just be the cases that prove Trump and a number of other Republicans gave "aid or comfort" to insurrectionists, and gets them banned from running for any elective office. It's perfectly clear right there in the constitution that this is what's supposed to happen. Even one plea deal that winds up with a guilty plea to seditious conspiracy against the United States opens the floodgates.

In North Carolina, voters have filed an objection with the Board of Elections to Madison Cawthorn filing for his next reelection, on violation of the 14th amendment grounds. This might get interesting, since the constitution just states the restriction, and says congress can vote to lift it. It doesn't say anything about who decides it applies to a particular person. But the fact that it explicitly mentions congress lifting the restrictions means they did not think congress should decide when to apply them. In spite of that, congress has done just that after the civil war when it refused to seat members who were Confederates. But the Amendment says they are not allowed to run, not run, get elected, and then be denied seats in congress. So maybe that "precedent" does not apply?

But who else would decide? If not congress, that just leaves the judicial and executive branches. I would think a court decision would convince the President. But the House Jan 6th committee could refer multiple cases to the Justice Department for prosecution. There IS a federal statute that says essentially the same thing, but specifies fines and prison sentences as well. Prosecuting those cases has no questionable interpretation.

8 to 1 decision! Trump may have appointed a bunch of them but they can't bring themselves to support his BS arguments. The opinion said he would have had to turn these records over to the Jan 6th committee even if he was still President, since Presidential records are the property of the American people (not that President) as per the Watergate records law.

This is very bad news for Trump and any of his staff who planned on pleading the 5th Amendment before the committee. With all of this documentation, the Justice Department will have the evidence of the crimes they conceal by claiming 5th Amendment protection. So they can't rely on a "nobody talks" defense any more. Instead, I think we will see the typical scramble to cooperate for immunity or lenience by the "little fish".

If I was Trump, I would be thinking of where in Argentina I want to create Mar-A-Lago South.

Does anyone think that Trump's rickety 1990 built 757 can make it to Moscow without some catastrophic event?
