Just out of curiosity -having completely withdrawn from public schools, aren’t homeschooling parents too busy grading math homework and trying to learn the top three exports of Venezuela, to bother going to meetings about stuff their kids aren’t going to be exposed to anyway?

Or is thathomeschooled reference in your post a little bit of hyperbole?

Considering that in many cases "home schooling" is all about the kids NOT learning something that one or more parents does not want them to learn, I doubt those parents are particularly busy teaching. It's usually parents who want to make sure their kids share their character and knowledge defects.

Perhaps the "homeschool" label was a bit sloppy. I should have used the terms anti-public school / pro-privatization crowd. Media Matters will explain the ire of my post better than I. smile

As I wrote in another post, Glenn Youngkin's Gubernatorial victory in Virginia, for example, was largely spurred by parental outrage over masks and critical race theory. Hmm Now we learn, parents should be in quotations. laugh

When I was with my partner of 10 years, we purchased a home in a newly built neighborhood and our next door neighbors were a mom and dad with six kids. They were religious people. All of the kids were homeschooled except for the youngerst child, he was special needs and went to school. A short bus would pick him up. The family owned a 15-passenger black van that my partner and I labeled "The Church Bus."

The family seemed normal and emotionally well adjusted at first. But as the years went on, frequent visits by the police happened, the kids all had a turn, or several turns, at running away from home. The family literally became the "homeschool" stereotype that we hear so often about.

Hmm

Former POTUS and treason committer Donald Trump told a crowd of supporters in Texas last night that if prosectors "do anything illegal," (READ: Indict him) he wants his base to go to DC and protest. Shades of January 6th 2020, no?

I think they might be a bit wary after many of the 1-6 "protestors" spend time in prison. They need to study MLK's tactics for protest without prison.

Trump said last night that when he is POTUS again - he'll pardon the 1/6 "protestors."

Did the orange incompetent commit a crime by dangling a pardon in front of the 01/06 domestic terrorists? Is water wet?

Not wanting to beat a dead horse here but there are a couple of points I want to make on this home-school thing.

First I should say that I’m as dubious about home-schooling as anyone else. I believe it can be done well but it takes educated parents with an immense amount of drive. I know that the homeschooling movement grew out of the evangelical Christian community. I have no idea what the success rate is, or what defines success.

We - that is, I and, I’m fairly sure, a lot of others, have said for a long time that if you don’t like your public school(s) you can work to change them, or you can go elsewhere - to private schools or homeschooling. These people are doing exactly that. They appear to be more organized and more active than we might like.

I don’t like what’s happening, I don’t like it at all. But I also don’t like the stereotyping. Some of the people in this group of would-be bookburners may be homeschoolers, but I’d bet as many or more have students enrolled in public schools. They bother me far more than those who have removed themselves from the system.

Nothing has given me a clearer understanding of how severe the current effects of climate warming are than an article I heard on NPR regarding climate change. Duluth, MN is experiencing an influx of new residents trying to escape global warming.

Duluth, MN is painfully cold. The article didn’t specify where the new residents were coming from, but I hope they’re prepared. Duluth?
