Rick is right. They are not attracting new voters. Racists and rightwingers will naturally gravitate to the modern authoritarian version of the party but moderates aren't real pleased with what has happened over the last few years. They don't like being the chosen party of the Nazis and racists and haters of all stripes.

And it's my opinion that the party can't survive as an immoderate, racist, authoritarian entity.

And that it will evolve over time into something more moderate and less racist, just as the Democrats did.

'Bout ten years I'd guess before common sense returns to a wayward party. Because they have no platform or scruples or actual plans for the future, every election they win is a net loss for the party.

Your list of lawsuits you listed was interesting. The interest was in who was doing it and it was three for the Dems and three for the Republicans. Each side is whining about the other side doing terrible things. Turns out they both seem to be doing terrible things. Seems to me that we are living in a society of them that do terrible things - ON BOTH SIDES!

The original list included
Alabama Republican legislature – SCOTUS dismissed
Georgia Republican legislature – still pending
Idaho Republican legislature – still pending
Maryland – Democratic legislature – still pending
Michigan – independent commission – dismissed by Michigan’s supreme court
Nevada – democratic legislature – still pending
New Jersey – democratic legislature – dismissed by New Jersey’s supreme court
New Mexico – democratic legislature – still pending
Ohio – Republican legislature – Ohio’s supreme court upheld the lawsuit forcing Ohio to draw a new map.
North Carolina Republican legislature – North Carolina’s supreme court upheld the lawsuit forcing North Carolina to draw a new map.
Texas – republican legislature - DOJ sued Texas – still pending.

The thing that’s hard for me to understand is the worst gerrymandering was done in Illinois and New York, no lawsuits filed. There may be a reason for that, both Ohio and North Carolina had written in their state constitution an anti-gerrymandering section. The Gerrymandering in both states was unconstitutional according to each state’s constitution. Apparently neither Illinois nor New York have such a section in their state constitution. Neither did New Jersey which dismissed the lawsuit brought there. New York is a harder pill to swallow. New York went to an independent commission to draw their new district lines in the 1990’s. The commission did so in both 2000 and 2010. But this year, the independent commissions map wasn’t liked, so NY state legislature overrode the independent commission and drew their own map. Oh well, such is life.

It's high past time that we start electing Americans to congress and the presidency who put America first instead of their political party. For way too long we have been electing Republicans and Democrats who happen to be Americans instead of Americans who happen to be Republicans and Democrats.

Kansas is now the 39th state to complete their redistricting, 11 more remaining. The democrats maintain their gerrymandering advantage of 14 seats, 11 new Democratic districts, minus 3 Republican districts. We now have 322 newly drawn districts; 113 districts remain to be redrawn. Florida is the only big state remaining. Several medium sized states have yet to redraw their district maps, North Carolina, Ohio, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Missouri. The remaining are the smaller states which have less than 10 electoral votes.

Out of the 322 newly drawn districts, there are 31 competitive, switchable districts. Currently held by 20 Democrats and 11 Republicans. Safe seats as of 9 Feb 2022, 154 Democratic, 137 Republican.

The below listed states are in litigation over their new maps. These states in litigation will probably change the above listed safe and competitive seats depending on the outcome of the lawsuits. Listed also is which state legislature drew the maps being challenged by lawsuits.

Georgia – Republican legislature
Idaho – Republican legislature
Maryland – Democratic legislature
Nevada – Democratic legislature
New Mexico – Democratic legislature
Texas – Republican legislature

The fact many 2022 GOP candidates are seeking out Margorie Taylor Greene’s endorsement does not bode well for successful GOP wins this fall. Hmm

Why do you think that Rick? It seems to me the more insane the better for the GOP these days.

En serio.

There’s a struggle in the GOP these days between the Trump MAGA/QAnon base and the base of normal GOP’ers like Liz Cheney, Adam Kinzinger, Mitt Romney. The MAGA/QAnon base is winning and the normal base feels like the GOP has left them and they are frustrated. In short, there is no unity in the GOP and the primaries and November mid-terns are fast approaching,

The normal GOP base does not want to be associated with the MAGA/QAnon base at all. Hmm

At her best, MTG will be proficient at endorsing primary winning candidates that will then be LOSER candidates in the general election in many races to Demorats. smile

…and the analysis of the 2022 mid-term election results will be the GOP, once again, not taking responsibility for the nearly 40% of the crazies that comprise of their base, but that the Dems “cheated” by gerrymandering districts. We are already seeing that talking point being pushed now. Hmm

First, Green is getting Republican challengers for her seat in Georgia's upcoming GOP primary.
