Another seeking dichotomy for me - what else is new?

Just heard a radio article about the distress many Olympians face once the games are over. Distress anxiety, depression. And how the need our support - our understanding that, after all, they are not superhuman.

Excuse me? In theory we’re supposed to support you [i]because[i/] you are world-class American athletes, and now we’re supposed to support you because your athletic career is over?

Where were your family and your coaches, who should have helped you prepare for the future?

The dichotomy, of course, lies in the fact that I support a full recovery for anyone with these illnesses/issues.

Still, I have an unhappy response to someone who says “help me; I’m no longer on top of the world and I don’t know how to normal.”

I know. Unkind. Unsympathic. Bitc*y.

My roommate struggles with that. He has competed all over the world, eight times national champ one time world champ. Now an aging athlete carrying on with training because it's all he's ever done. I feel a little sorry for him but he's basically just a dumb jock doing what they do.

The only Olympic article I saw in the past 24 hrs was this one from Reuters:

Then there was the American Chinese girl who decided to represent the China in the Olympics. While doing that apparently she also made 31 million dollars doing ads. Pretty hard to blame her. She made 31 million in two weeks!

That's pretty funny: The American Dream is selling your self to the Communists for 15 million dollars per week.

For some people, money is everything.

I consider myself lucky in that regard. I'm comfortable. Sure it would be nice to drop a few Benjamins like a baller, but I'm good.

I really don’t think it’s about money. Prestige maybe. Having an all encompassing goal in life, and then having it disappear, maybe. I mean, I do have some form of sympathy for these people but another part of me sort of wants to slap them upside the head and say “welcome to normalcy! “

Welp, they can use their fame and glory and become transgender...if they really want to spice things up. Worked for Bruce...erm Caitlyn.

In case anyone is interested, Caitlyn Jenner is loathed in the LGBTQ community. Why? Because she chooses to align herself with a political party that hates LGBTQ.

You see, conservative LGBTQ like Cailtyn and Log Cabin, it's all about money and not paying taxes. They place money above who they are as a person - which is NOT a LGTQ value.
