We have always held ourselves to a higher standard. All views are welcome here.

But some views are more welcome than others. And some views are just plain wrong.

Remember the music group from the 80s, Twisted Sister, and their hit "We're not going to take it"? Welp, they've authorize its use for the Ukrainian people to use in their fight against Russia.

So, that's good.

A wanna-be (R) politico, Jerrod Sessler, is disappointed the group is abandoning their "traditional family values" and going full Liberal. The problem is, the song was never about conservative family values. The song is about the freedom of choices in life.

Lead Singer Dee Snider who wrote the song, responded by laughing hysterically at the idea that he was promoting traditional conservative values.

Sessler then explained that he believed that God could send special messages through people whether they knew it or not, and that God used him, Dee Snider, to send a message to Conservative Republicans with traditional values.

So basically, Sessler is so desperate to feel like he and his fellow Traditional Conservative Republicans are cool and edgy that he's going to tell Dee Snider what his song means and assert that the only way it is "good" is if it holds the meaning Sessler erroneously believes it has.

Truly, there are few Culture War genres more enjoyable than "Republicans Disappointed To Find Out Their Favorite Musicians Hate Them" and "Republicans Not Understanding Art."

It all starts with Republican Jesus: You know, that WASP guy with "conservative family values":. Definitely NOT the Jewish Socialist from the Middle East!

The above is no different than Ronald Reagan’s unauthorized use of Bruce Springteen’s Born in the USA. Reagan thought Bruce was singing about how great America is. The song is actually about how the US screws its middle class and is a protest song.

…and speaking about how the US screws every day people but white wealthy men, PBS has an excellent two-part movie about Benjamin Franklin which includes Ben’s role in the founding of the US.

I highly recommend the four hour movie.

Or the Trump campaign using Fortunate Son. Trump thought it was about him! It was (re heal spurs) but not at all in a good way.

I've watched the first half, and the second is on my schedule for tonight.

A well reasoned argument is like a diamond: impervious to corruption and crystal clear - and infinitely rarer.

Here, as elsewhere, people are outraged at what feels like a rigged game -- an economy that won't respond, a democracy that won't listen, and a financial sector that holds all the cards. - Robert Reich

Since Trump-appointed judges are freeing kidnappers these days, I suspect Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is going to tell Michigan police they need to have shoot-outs when they go to arrest people for such things. If judges are not willing to convict kidnappers just because their plot was politically-motivated, then I guess the police need to serve as judge, jury, and executioner.

No problem for the police: Nothing happens to police when they shoot anybody, even if it's an innocent bystander or a child in a car driving away. All they need is the flimsiest excuse, and out the courtroom door they go. Or never even get to court. Just a paid vacation while the case gets "investigated".

What did you think of the movie?

This my take-away:
  • I had no idea that Ben played such an important role
  • I had no idea that the Revoltionay War lasted 6 years
  • I had no idea HOW the Revoluntiay War ended. In my defense, everyone at work I asked today how the war ended, didn't know either. All I knew is the result. I thought the war just ended and everyone went home.

This is WHY we need PBS. smile
