It's probably Trump and his candidates that are also limiting the Republicans gains in the house to 12-15 seats when with the very low approval of both Biden and the democrats in congress, historically with those numbers a red wave should be happening,

Because they all are so terribly bad, most independents won't vote for them.
The results of all the red meat slinging, revenge politics will be the loss of a red wave in the midterms and possibly the loss of the 2024 presidential elections as well.
