I think by the general election, the GOP will be split between MAGA folks who stay home because their guy lost the primary, and old-school Republicans who can't stomach the big lie as told by the MAGA candidate who did win the primary. Trump is NOT helping the Party. Loyalty to Trump is all that counts. Just look at Perdue and Kemp. Good news for Abrams!

I think we will see this in many races. That's why I think the outcome of the House general elections will be very much not "business as usual". You also need to factor in the million people who died from Covid. A lot of them were elderly, and used to be a reliable Republican voting block:
People In Counties That Backed Trump Were Twice As Likely To Die

Then we might also have some Republican congressmen who are under indictment for their criminal actions re the January 6th insurrection.

Then there's this:
Trump Fears Wrath of 'Suburban Women' Over Roe Loss

That's Trump worrying about his 2024 chances if Roe is overturned, but it applies to the midterms as well.

I wonder what Justice Thomas will do when his wife gets indicted?

I think Madison Cawthorn has done us a favor by identifying his co-conspirators. It's a partial list of the traitor caucus, but they do represent some of the scum of the earth.

I think (hope) enough true Americans are waking up to the actual threat that this cabal is to the United States. We're going through a dark patch, and because we're vulnerable, it's likely to get darker (because they want it whiter).

My biggest concern is that it may already be too late. And external circumstances may tip the balance - the war in Ukraine, supply shortages, gas prices, the attendant inflation - will coalesce into a generalized "other party" sweep, and that party is in the thrall of anti-Democracy fever. Too many people don't, or refuse to, recognize the threat. CPAC in Hungary? Seriously?

A well reasoned argument is like a diamond: impervious to corruption and crystal clear - and infinitely rarer.

Here, as elsewhere, people are outraged at what feels like a rigged game -- an economy that won't respond, a democracy that won't listen, and a financial sector that holds all the cards. - Robert Reich

Yes, Hungary. Tucker Carlson went there to interview the President because MAGAts like Tucker love authoritarian dictators.

MAGAts: “I need an order.”

Cuckolds like Tucker Carlson love being told what to do.

I propose that the next Democratic political action conference be held in either Havana or Caracas.
Why not? What's wrong with cozying up to a COMMUNIST country? They already say we're all commies anyway!

Its EVERYBODY else that is wrong!

The GOP nominee for Pennsylvania Governor, Doug Mastriano, just indicated he'll steal the election in 2024 if he wins this year.

He could, but then a million really pissed-off voters could show up at the governor's mansion and burn it to the ground. With him still inside. You can only push people so far, and then backlash happens. Pence understood this on January 6th. So did all the Republican governors of Trump's "find me enough votes" states in 2020.

Sounds very anti-democracy. Republicans are proudly very open about it. Ergo, the title of this thread.

Nope, not a million, just enough to justify a mobilization of the NatGuard and mass arrests, then Fox News saying it was "the real insurrection" and calls going out for the people who showed up to get the death penalty, etc.

That's "ALMOST" what their reaction was to Susan Collins waking up a chalk message on her driveway.

Yeah, Republicans are real good at manufacturing outrage. But I think the important thing is Susan Collins was reminded that people she screws over know where she lives. I think that is very healthy for every elected official to know. Screw over enough people, and one will come and draw chalk slogans on your sidewalk. Screw over more and one will come with a sniper rifle.

When "outrage" is a multi-billion dollar industry like it is now, here...it decides elections.
And under the NEXT GOP administration, the above is EXACTLY what they are waiting for, so they can declare martial law, like they tried to already, and conduct mass arrests, like they tried to already.
We KNOW how this plays out, we're seeing it happen in real time now in some other countries and the entire world watched it play out eighty some years ago.
