Georgia is in a class by itself when it comes to republican loyalty to Trump. Quite a lot of Republicans hold Trump responsible for their 2 senate losses in the January 2021 senate runoffs due to Trump’s your vote won’t count campaign after Kemp and Raffensperger refused to go along with Finding 11,780 votes. Kind of a payback to Trump backed candidates statewide for causing the loss of two GOP held senate seats. Call it political revenge against Trump.
I voted in the GOP primary this year, just so I could vote against Perdue and Hice. My vote for Kemp was for him as I think Kemp has been an excellent governor. My vote for Raffensperger was more a vote against Hice. I haven’t seen any exit polling on the GOP primary here. There may not be. I can’t answer how many democrats voted in the GOP primary. My guess Georgia being an open primary state was a lot of independents voted in the GOP primary bypassing the Democratic one. Abrams was unopposed, the hot races were on the Republican side. This isn’t unusual for Georgia for the bulk of independents to vote in the primary with the hottest races. In 2020, independents by a 2-1 margin voted in the democratic primary. This year, the bulk of independents voted in the GOP primary. I doubt that many Democrats crossed over to vote in the Republican Primary. Unless there are some exit polling released, no one can be sure.
