State legislature choose the electors in our early days ... No popular vote
I stand sorta corrected .... but not so fast.

Still you statements are misleading. While there were not political parties in the modern sense, there were political parties which did offer candidates and political agendas. Further, the statement there were no popular votes or more correctly I believe no direct popular presidential votes is incorrect. As in every general election presidential candidates have been voted on. In fact while some state legislatures did in fact select electors, their vote was determined by the popular vote in each of their states i.e. the electors did not simply vote willy-nilly. This evolved to the modern system.

anything involving Trump makes no sense
I have been trying to tell people all the rules you once knew are no longer valid in the age of Trump. When you say, "It can't happen in America", well throw that out the window because it can happen and almost did. All political thinking no longer has boundaries. Trump is a modern day Pandora. The Republican base of deplorables has been released from the box for whom elected Republicans have apologized for the last 40 years.

So when you say Republican election boards won't overturn election results, remember what you said .... anything involving Trump makes no sense .... in a world in which nothing may make sense, everything is possible

Rep Pelosi said it best, "Do you believe this?"
