No State has ever needed to pass any laws, but they still have, and will. So long as Republicans have control anywhere, they will restrict voting. Republicans have been in control many times, in many places and yet we still vote freely. My ballot is here on my desk somewhere. Two years from now I expect to be able to say the same. And that there will be Democrats on it who might or might not win. And then two years hence...the same. Folks here say that's an outright impossibility. That Democracy is about to end.

Coming soon to a state near you, and me. It's already happened in Texass too. For those that have not followed what is happening: These arrests are part of DeSantis' initiative to guarantee "election integrity" as the GOP was spreading conspiracies about the 2020 election being stolen, resulted in 20 arrests, which DeSantis triumphantly championed at a press conference in August, but questions immediately emerged about the project. Florida's Amendment 4, approved by voters in 2018, undid one of the strictest felony disenfranchisement regimes in the country, giving hundreds of thousands of people who had been permanently disenfranchised by a prior conviction their voting rights back, but some felonies like murder and sex offenses were excluded, and the GOP legislature subsequently narrowed the restoration even further by requiring rehabilitated ex-convicts pay back all fines and fees, even those that weren't part of their initial sentence. What DeSantis is doing is exactly what this thread is about: The Republican march to Fascism.

I have faith that our system is seaworthy, but I am not willing to ignore the storm. So who's ignoring the storm? I'm just not in a panic over it.

Orban slowly modified,re-wrote Hungary's constitution to suit his dictatorship. They still have elections, but they're rigged to ensure he remains in power forever. But yeah sure, don't act concerned because someone might think you're panicked.

https://www.cnn.com/2022/10/20/politics/election-deniers-county-voting-offices-invsJohnson is far from the only MAGA conspiracist inside the election process in a key battleground state. In Colorado, Michigan, Nevada and elsewhere, elections officials already have seen MAGA-leaning insiders allow election equipment to be breached, spread baseless fears about voting machine and election security, or take other actions that could stoke voter distrust. “The foxes are absolutely inside the henhouses,” Barb Byrum, clerk of Michigan’s Ingham County, told CNN. BUT DON'T BE CONCERNED, you might be accused of panicking!

“There’s a group of people hanging out near the ballot dropbox filming and photographing my wife and I as we approached the dropbox and accusing us of being a mule,” said the report, which was written by a voter in the Phoenix suburbs and obtained by The Washington Post. “They took … photographs of our license plate and of us and then followed us out the parking lot in one of their cars continuing to film. - WaPo.com

The midterms validate that Donald Trump, Trumpism, the party's lurch to far right wing extremism including white nationalism, white supremacy, Christian nationalism, antisemitism, authoritarianism, Fascism, and the "Big Lie" of stolen elections hurt, not helped candidates in the 2022 midterms - so what is the GOP going to do about it? Tap right-wing extremists to lead a group tasked to expand GOP appeal. Per Politico, Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel is launching two advisory groups in an effort to expand the party's appeal to voters and examine what went wrong in the wake of stunning, historic midterm election losses – and she's turning to some of the right's most extreme leaders to perform the investigations. You can't make this stuff up. It was rightwing extremism which infected the GOP which lead to the midterm losses, so the GOP thinking is to have rightwing extremists tell the GOP what went wrong. Hilarious!
