McCarthy finally was able to get the votes to become speaker this morning, after a midnight 15th vote. Now it’s time to move on and we’ll see that with all the caving and concessions McCarthy made to the 21 holdouts or MAGA house members if he has become or will be just a puppet speaker to that faction of the house. As near as I can find out there are at least 90 Republican house members that were elected that were endorsed by Trump, at least 80 house Republicans belonging to the MAGA Republican caucus which includes the 55 of the Freedom Caucus. These numbers may be conservative.
Which simply means there’s more non-MAGA republican house members than MAGA members by a very small number. But with all the concessions and caving McCarthy did to become speaker, these 90 plus Trump endorsed/MAGA types in my opinion will have more power over the other 120-130 non Trump endorsed/non-MAGA republican house members. Out of this later 120-130 non-MAGA, I have no idea how many sympathize with the MAGA faction. Time will tell.
It's high past time that we start electing Americans to congress and the presidency who put America first instead of their political party. For way too long we have been electing Republicans and Democrats who happen to be Americans instead of Americans who happen to be Republicans and Democrats.

What do I expect from the new Speaker McCarthy led with all his concessions and caving to the MAGA republican holdouts? Many investigations for sure, Hunter Biden probably top the list, an investigation into the 1-6 committee also, the politization of the DOJ, COVID origins, the withdrawal from Afghanistan, the southern border and more. You could see McCarthy deny certain democrats any committee assignments in retaliation for Pelosi denying 2 of McCarthy’s choices when he was minority leader. I would wager at some time in the next year, the republican controlled house will impeach Biden. I have a feeling this Republican controlled House will be a political payback house for all the things that they, Republicans perceive they were done wrong when the Democrats controlled the house. Keep in mind I said they, Republicans, I didn’t say I.
Governing I don’t think will be a priority.

Not without the help of Donald Trump who McCarthy had on speed dial when the R-rebels kept voting to keep the speakership away from Q-evin. Voting "present" gave these people safe harbor in this commitment to never vote for McCarthy. Donald, Matt voted 'no' again! Please talk to him.

The hardcore "Never Kevin" caucus didn't vote for Q-evin to become Speaker, they voted "present" which lowered the amount of "yes" votes Q-evin needed to become Speaker. Prior, they all voted "No."

McCarthy’s compulsive dishonesty, habitual servility and enthusiasm for groveling before authoritarians were never stellar credentials for a man hoping to be entrusted with the leadership of a democratic institution. But McCarthy’s ritual humiliation transcends his person and serves as an indictment of his party.
The California Republican has solicitously presided over a group of people who to varying degrees do not believe in elections, governance, facts, decency or order. Nearly two-thirds of his ragtag caucus voted to overturn the last presidential election, so of course they’re not pulled by the precepts that typically enable people to form societies, associations and, well, congresses. Welp, they're not wrong.

Do you see what Hakeem did there? I assumed the speech was read from a teleprompter. It wasn't. It was said live without a teleprompter. Even MORE impressive! In case the nuance of the speech was missed, I was pointing out that Hakeem was going down a list of attibributes that Dems have over R's - in A to Z alphabetical order! Impressive!!
