Trump must disappear for DeSantis to have a chance at the nomination. DeSantis regardless of what you think of him, he doesn’t have Trump’s baggage. He’s not facing any legal challenges or possible indictments. DeSantis is on Trump’s enemy’s list which makes him more acceptable to independents than Trump’s chosen candidates as 2022 proved. DeSantis isn’t known for childish antics like name calling and throwing of temper tantrums. DeSantis acts more adult like than Trump and more presidential. DeSantis very well could be Trump 2.0, but he’s Trump 2.0 without the baggage that Trump brings to the table or to perhaps the general election.
Being DeSantis is on Trump’s enemy’s list, that Trump goes around calling DeSantis a bunch of names, it’ll be very hard for the Democrats to tie him to Trump. DeSantis may be the same as Trump, but DeSantis presents a whole bunch of new problems for the Democrats that they didn’t have with Trump. If by some quirk of fate, the Republicans nominate DeSantis, it will still boil down to who the Democrats nominate. It’ll boil down to which candidates independents view more favorably or less unfavorably. Which candidate they like more or dislike the less. If the election were held today, DeSantis would win 8 out of the 10 swing states against Biden, losing only Michigan and Minnesota. But the election isn’t today, plenty of time for all of this to change which it will. But the longer Trump hogs the headlines, the less time the voters, especially independents voters will get the chance to learn who DeSantis really is.
It's high past time that we start electing Americans to congress and the presidency who put America first instead of their political party. For way too long we have been electing Republicans and Democrats who happen to be Americans instead of Americans who happen to be Republicans and Democrats.
