The news outlets are making the same mistake they made in the runup to the 2016 election. They are gifting the Grifter-in-Chief millions of dollars in free publicity and turning an official function of our justice system into a reality show. We do not need or want 24 hour coverage of every time the former guy burps, farts, or issues another demand for insurrection.
He WANTS the 24 hour media circus. We should not be giving him what he wants, we should be giving Americans what they desperately need.

Idaho has just made it illegal to transport a minor anywhere without parental consent to get an abortion, joining several other states. I'm not sure what happens if a PG girl gets on a city bus to go somewhere to get some abortion pills. Does the bus driver get charged?
Anyway, I just realized girls in Idaho have a perfect means of getting an abortion: Just tell daddy they will inform Child Protective Services the baby is his if he doesn't drive her to another state for an abortion. I doubt they would force amniocentesis on her to do a paternity test. So daddy is going to sit in jail for around half a year until the baby is born so they can run the test. And even then, if she doesn't recant he could sit there forever. No reason she couldn't be telling the truth, even if she then went and got knocked up by somebody else.
And there would be a decent chance it actually was daddy's baby, considering how many women report sexual abuse by male relatives.

Happy Spring, y'all.
Life has been busy, and it is getting a tad complicated today because I am picking up friends from the airport on the same day I'm having floors refinished in my house. <sigh>
But Spring is all about renewal, and I am feeling renewal vibes. Justice is coming to the Criminal-in-Chief, Wisconsin gave a resounding "no" to the churlish right-wing MAGA candidate (I have rarely seen such a graceless speech as what he delivered after his trouncing, reflecting the same churlishness that is Trump), and said yes to a champion of liberty on the bench, renewing my faith in democracy.
Idaho passed a law that is so obviously unconstitutional that the Supreme Court Conservative Cabal (SCCC) will probably jump in to preemptively endorse it, further eroding freedom in the United States, but there is a feeling all around the country that the grassroots are rejecting the extremism. I feel good about 2024, and we're just starting 2023.
Over in Ukraine, the fight continues. I watch it intently, and worry about the wanton destruction being visited on the poor innocents. Putin richly deserves incarceration and trial in the Hague. What a despicable beast.
A well reasoned argument is like a diamond: impervious to corruption and crystal clear - and infinitely rarer.
Here, as elsewhere, people are outraged at what feels like a rigged game -- an economy that won't respond, a democracy that won't listen, and a financial sector that holds all the cards. - Robert Reich

Putin richly deserves incarceration and trial in the Hague. What a despicable beast. Elite Russian security officer says Putin is terrified of assassination and 'his perception of reality has been distorted' Radio Free Europe translated the recent interview with Gleb Karakulov, saying he "simply could not be in the service of this president."One of the details he provided was that the Russian president does not use a mobile phone or the Internet. "All the information he receives is only from people who are directly close. He lives in a kind of information vacuum," said Karakulov.

Putin is terrified of assassination That's the Russian version of transfer of power. Sort of like getting in to work and being called to HR, only to be escorted out of the building by security. The idea is to prevent any sabotage on the way out. So out the window he goes, before he can start WW III. I think it's inevitable. Speaking of peaceful transfer of power, now that Disney out-lawyered DeSantis he's weaponizing state government to throw a tantrum. He wants an investigation on various bogus points over what the special district board did after he attempted to wrest control over Disney's media content for criticizing his "Don't Say Gay" campaign. I think he's touched the Third Rail of Florida politics. Trying to hold a huge media company hostage and deny their freedom of speech is going to backfire bigtime. Not to mention Disney is the largest employer in Florida, and used to make a lot of political contributions.

My favorite part of being on the internet is reading various comments. Every once and awhile, I come across a comment that tugs at the heart strings.

Republicans object to replacing Feinstein on the Judiciary committee. Of course they do - no judges are being nominated and appointed. I’m sick-to-death of Democrats hanging on until death in the positions of government, We The People are the ones that get screwed (without the hugs and the kisses) when Dems do that.

Enemies of the State: A letter to POTUS Biden, signed by 19 Republican House/Senate members, parrots many Russian propaganda narratives, including dismissing Ukraine’s sovereignty by labeling the conflict a “proxy war” between Russia and the United States.
