My apologies for this one. I have been watching this election for some time and how the Dems are doing their job. Not a single time, however, did anybody, including myself, tell the idiot Trumpites that a Vice President has two jobs. One is the watch, learn, and fill in if something happens to the president. The other thing is to do whatever the president tells you to do. That's it - NOTHING else! They have consistently, and regularly, said how poorly she did this or that as vice president. That was, as far as I was concerned, insulting and a splendid display of incredible ignorance (not all that amazing given it all).

If Trump takes over it is, as far as I am concerned, going to be a really painful display of that ignorance for all of us to witness AND suffer.

Couldn't help myself - again, sorry!

Realignments a real b!tch.
It’s not as though the left flank that’s remained in the Dem coalition hasn’t been warning of this inevitable result.
Dem Corp narrative control strategies and their failed play for suburban Republicans at the expense of those uncouth blue collared voters has resulted in a brutal loss.
Again.

I’m not hopeful the leadership has capacity to absorb and learn from their failure. Not until the money dries up anyways.

No. The call will go out. The rush to the ramparts and man the blame cannons will be underway in the next few days. The reaction posts here should provide an indication of where it’s going. The usual management can’t fail. It can only be failed. It’s the voters fault!

The nitty gritty, voter turnout decided this election. Voter turnout in 2020 160 million. Voter turnout so far this year, 141 million. As of this AM CNN has Trump at 50.8% of the vote, 72.6 million to Harris’s 47.5%. 67.9 million. That’s close to the same percentages Biden won by in 2020, only reversed. Biden won 51.3% to Trump’s 46.9%

https://www.cnn.com/election/2024/r...flipped=false&filter-remaining=false

The big difference is Trump is approaching his vote total from 2020, 74.2 million whereas Harris is way behind Biden’s 81.3 million. Some 13 plus million votes behind Biden although Trump may or may not reach his 2020 vote total this year needing just a bit less than 2 million more votes. How to explain the lower voter turnout, especially why Biden voters in 2020 stayed home in 2024 instead of voting for Harris? These stay at home, non-voters probably still disliked Trump, but couldn’t bring themselves to vote for Harris because they perceived the job Biden and his administration which included VP Harris had done over the last 4 years as unsatisfactory. They governed poorly in the eyes of most Americans, 56% of all Americans disapproved of how Biden and company governed. 63% think the Biden administration has this country headed in the wrong direction, on the wrong track.

https://www.realclearpolling.com/polls/state-of-the-union/direction-of-country

They were unhappy with their own personal situation and living standard. The way things are going in this country today, dissatisfied. So, whether than voting for Trump due to their dislike of him, they didn’t vote at all. In short, Trump retained his voters from 2020, Harris didn’t retain Biden voters. Voter turnout was the key.

Along with, for the first time since the great depression and the realignment of party affiliation, more republicans voted this year than democrats, 35-31, Compared to 2020 when 37% of those who voted were democrats vs. 35% republican. 2016 36% democratic, 33% republican and on back.

It's high past time that we start electing Americans to congress and the presidency who put America first instead of their political party. For way too long we have been electing Republicans and Democrats who happen to be Americans instead of Americans who happen to be Republicans and Democrats.

optimism is nice but the reality is, or should I type, I believe, the American electorate is hugely stupid. Republicans have always, it seems, been magical thinkers. I talked with a Trumpist last night he told me Trump would make the economy great again and make prices come down. Since the economy is already better than when he left, he will take credit for what has happened in the last 4 years, and he can;t magically make prices go down. And that was only one aspect of the conversation. Yikes!!!!

Sure, Trump will take the credit. Presidents have always taken credit for a good economy, they’ll holler from the highest mountain top it was their policies that made the economy roar. When the economy is bad, the challengers always blame the president policies, it was the president’s policies that made the economy go bad.

That’s the way it is and always has been. I’m different, I believe the economy is like the weather, it’s going to do whatever the economy wants to do. That presidents, government can only play around the edges. If presidents or government could do anything about the economy, have some control over it, we’d have all good times, no bad time, all ups and no downs. But like the weather, the economy has a mind of its own. But previous presidents and challengers have spouted for so long, probably since the beginning of this country that it’s their policies that give us a good or bad economy. Because of this, Trump will take credit and most Americans will give him that credit.

I have a question, but first some numbers to lead into that question. High voter turnout 2020 160 million, 62.8% using VAP. 2024, low voter turnout 143 million, 54.0% using VAP. Trump, votes received 2020, 74.2 million, votes so far in 2024 73.5 million. Biden, votes received in 2020, 81.3 million, Harris votes received in 2024 69,1 million. Once all the votes are counted, Trump will come close to matching or surpassing by a few votes his total of 74.2 million he received in 2020. Harris is running 12 million votes behind the 81.3 million Biden received in 2020.

The question, why? What caused 12 million Biden voters in 2020 to decide to stay home and not vote in 2024 for Harris? One can also ask, why did 17 million voters in 2020 decide to give 2024 a pass by staying home and not voting?
