Just when I believed it could not get any worse, it has.
It is well known Trump is going after every institution which he believes has wrongfully attacked him for alleged crimes, the crimes of which have an enormous volume of evidence. What is more disconcerting is those very institutions, including law firms, have buckled under threat of retribution by the government, through either a weaponized DoJ prosecution or Congressional (read that as an executive branch which has subsumed Congress) defunding. Now thinking back to my curiosity regarding Germany in 1933, it is now clear to me that it was easy to destroy Democracy. Once in power, Hitler did not have to literally crush his opposition, he merely had to threaten it. Likewise in 2025 we find ourselves with a wannabe dictator who has begun implementation of the same political strategy. His targeted opposition is more than willing to submit to the extortion. Those institutions which have developed a symbiotic relationships with the government will soon find themselves withering, as they depended on funding from taxpayers for primarily research. The impact will be obvious and consequential. Defunding agencies which have in the past provided bellwether announcements of impending dangers, will no longer serve our communities with the same enthusiasm.
I wonder when CNN or MSNBC will succumb. Newsprint and social media will soon be history. Some pundits are saying Trump has overreached and will pay the price. Well, in normal times that would be a credible comment, but we live in Trump time. I do not believe those historically based comments are valid. Someone said the other day by the end of the year and then revised it to a few months from now. At the pace Trump is reforming the government in his own image, it will be in a few months, all opposition will be eradicated, and he will have free rein to do whatever crazy comes into his little narcissistically delusional mind. Trade wars ... yeah whatever ... call him Savior or be subject to a black hole in El Salvador.
