So irked it is better to bomb or invade Iran instead of agreeing with them to bring their nuclear program under international control, have them help stabalize Iraq, stop any assistance to terrorists and the only cost to us is to quit threatening them?
Glad to see you have your priorities right.

Phil, all that you wish will be accomplished, but on our terms. It may take slightly longer, but we will receive our just deserts.
Working against the interests of the United States of America may look inviting in the moment, but will certainly lead to our doom. Our track record in the Middle East is long and consistent. Is it in our interests to repudiate it all, to declare mea culpa? Or to continue in our own national interest?

Irked, our record in the ME is a disaster. An analysis of neocon thinking suggests they do not have a good handle on political reality. I would therefore suggest they would not recognize a political disaster if it bit them in the butt. But not to worry. The Iran Policy Committee is lobbying hard to get everyone geared for attack mode. What was once a great nation will probably for the next generation be known as a second rate bully. O well Americans allowed it to happen, I suppose that means they deserve it.

The Bush administration plans to roll out an unprecedented package of unilateral sanctions against Iran today, including the long-awaited designations of its Revolutionary Guard Corps as a proliferator of weapons of mass destruction and of the elite Quds Force as a supporter of terrorism, according to senior administration officials.
The package, scheduled to be announced jointly by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Treasury Secretary Henry M. Paulson Jr., marks the first time that the United States has tried to isolate or punish another country's military. It is the broadest set of punitive measures imposed on Tehran since the 1979 takeover of the U.S. Embassy, the officials said.
"This is a very powerful set of measures designed to send a message to Iran that there will be a cost to what they do. We decided on them because we have seen no change in Iranian behavior," said a senior administration official who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the measures have not yet been announced. "Our diplomacy needs to be stronger and more effective." What diplomacy?!?? BUM..bumm...BUMM...bumm...BUMM... I can hear those drums a poundin! as we near closer and closer to the strike!

Our track record in the Middle East is long and consistent. Is it in our interests to repudiate it all, to declare mea culpa? Or to continue in our own national interest? Irked, our record in the ME is a disaster. Which frames the question in a slightly different way: Our track record in the Middle East is long and consistent. Is it in our interests to repudiate it all, to declare mea culpa? Or to continue acting against our own national interest? What was once a great nation will probably for the next generation be known as a second rate bully. The question is: does that reputation serve our national interests, or not?

From ABC News, Rice Says Iran an Obstacle to U.S. Goals, but more disturbing is amid increased frustration by Republicans and Democrats alike that the Bush administration is not doing enough to deter Iran's nuclear ambitions. So there is apparently a growing bi-partisan base of supporters to play the Cheney card. Does anyone really believe we will not bomb Iran?

That kind of statement carries no water at all, rporter. Find a single quote to support it, and I will be moved.

Perhaps Iran is an obsacle to US goals but I have quite lost track of what US goals in the ME might be. At one time it might have been to achieve peace, that's certainly no longer an objective as war seldom achieves peace. I am going to remain an optimist and maintain that despite the bipartisan base of supporters to begin a THIRD war in the region that it will not happen. I've been wrong before though.

- Guarantee the flow of oil to America
- Protect Israel
Achievement of those goals is as you now see.
