And you know that Atta wrote this letter because . . . ? Excerpts from a five-page handwritten document that the FBI found in Mohamed Atta's luggage. Translated from Arabic: A handwritten note does tend to reveal the thinking of the author.

Fermi - thank you for that link; I had to force myself to shut it off because I'm heading out the door - but I will watch the rest as soon as I get back home.

That is hardly what someone who isn't religious would write. Curious as there are numerous reports that Atta was a smoking, drug using partier, who was unable to get a job in Germany for petty thievery. Does that sound like the Islamist you want to portray?

And you know that Atta wrote this letter because . . . ? One of the numerous serendipitous finds by American intelligence following 911. Strange they could even find Atta's passport in all of the debris but not OBL even after they surrounded him.

President Bush continues to ask for patience despite increasing evidence that America's patience with him and his war has worn thin. This was the clear message when we voted away his Congressional majority. As we approach the 2008 elections, increasing numbers of Republicans in Congress distance themselves from Mr. Bush's failed and costly misadventures in Iraq and Afghanistan. While I am sure we would all love to support or our Commander in Chief with continued patience and understanding, how can Americans give what we no longer have?
It has been suggested that we must have patience, because the enemy we fight has been patient for 1,400 years. Well, yes, and they live there. Eventually, sooner or later, we will have to leave. They will still be there; we will be gone. They win. General Petraeus' optimism notwithstanding, Iraq is a lost cause for us. The question is not whither victory, but rather how badly we have to lose in order for even Mr. Bush to see it is time to leave, and has been for some years.
Moreover, the enemy we fight is not a place. It is an ideology. We could torture, kill and/or incarcerate forever all the jihadists/terrorists in Iraq and we would win nothing. Despite our President's personal attempt at insight, the people who oppose us do so not because they hate our freedoms. They hate US. They hate us because America supports Israel in its ongoing pogrom against the Palestinian people spanning decades. They hate us because we put the Shah of Iran in place, support the House of Saud, propped up Saddam for years before we killed him, and have brought them al-Maliki, the contemporary Thief of Baghdad. They hate us because we occupy Afghanistan and Iraq and have a President who can't wait to attack Iran to cement his legacy on foreign policy.
Does anybody see a pattern here? While we have done and will do all of this to promote U.S. interests in the region, our actions have consistently alienated Muslim sentiment. While we can't recruit enough for our burgeoning military requirements, we are doing a great job recruiting for al Qaeda and Muslim extemists of all stripes.
We meddle in their politics, threaten their culture and religion, and invade their countries at will. Gee, why do they hate us? Because of our freedoms? No, actually, because of THEIR freedoms, and our historically validated actions to take those away because it promotes U.S. interests in the region...and they just have the misfortune to live there.
Patience as virtue? What Mr. Bush is really asking for is continued license to rob, steal, pillage and murder to make a handful of Americans even richer than they have become in the orgy of corruption that is his war. I guess the President has to ask for patience, as he has done nothing to deserve it. What he doesn't have to ask for are disdain and disgust, because he is earning these every day.

You got that right, Will! What you say! And you know that Atta wrote this letter because . . . ? Excerpts from a five-page handwritten document that the FBI found in Mohamed Atta's luggage. It was found in his luggage? What did he do, leave his luggage in the airport so the FBI could conveniently find it after his flaming return to Allah?
