For those who rely upon the Second Amendment for their Right to privately own and use firarms this will be a nail biter. And it will also be a nail biter for those who eagerly await the chance to release their inner fascist and infringe upon the Right of their neighbors to privately own and use firearms. Should be fun.;-)

The justices are facing a decision about whether to hear an appeal from city officials in Washington, D.C., wanting to keep the capital's 31-year ban on handguns. A lower court struck down the ban as a violation of the Second Amendment rights of gun ownership.

The prospect that the high court might define gun rights under the Constitution is making people on both sides of the issue nervous.

What the Supreme Court decides is really not that important. If the Court does make the right decision to overturn the Washington, D.C. city official's ban on guns that will be good news. But if the Court does not that will not overturn the right to defend yourself. I'd rather be tried by twelve than carried by six. The D.C. city official's decision to deny people the right to defend themselves with the best tool available is not something that is or was in their authority to do.

Nope, it's just proper thinking.

Regardless of the outcome I will continue to take my chances with the wisdom of the founding fathers and my right to defend myself.

Case in point: A recent incident in our sleepy neighborhood leaves me more convinced than ever that 9-1-1 is nothing more than government sponsored "Dial-A-Prayer".

A couple down the street known for their overindulgence in alcoholic beverages decided to push their anger agenda to new heights last week and when the husband decided to go after the wife with one of the large breaker bars from his tool chest the wife scattered out the door and dialed for help.

We were treated to the sight of her running down the street, screaming her head off while the husband was in hot pursuit promising for all the world to cave her skull in if he caught her.
Fortunately for her she was a faster runner than he was.
Unfortunately for the rest of us, 9-1-1 rang and rang and rang as several of us called.

Finally one of the other neighbors knocked hubby flat with a flying tackle and dislodged the breaker bar from his clenched fist as he sat on the scrawny old redneck.

But scrawny or not he was truly intent on loosening something on his wife and the bar certainly had the mass to accomplish the task.

Now...I don't know about you, but if I'm in a situation where I am in fear for my life, and 9-1-1 rings off the hook in the sleepy little berg where I live, I will be running too, but I'll be running toward the place where I know I have what it will take to equalize the situation and by God that's just not going to change because a group of stuffed shirt NWO freaks in Washington have decided I need a verichip and a permission slip from the nanny state to take a dump and scratch my butt.

If that means I do time, then it means I do time, but I won't be putting my family at risk because I'm being told that I'm not smart enough to know how to protect my own hide and that of my loved ones.

I'm fairly liberal on a lot of things, and I even applaud the vision of liberals on things that help mankind as a whole.
I just don't see where a police dispatcher on a coffee break or worse yet a private contractor with an attitude problem is going to save my bacon when I have the ways and means, the proper training, and the moral reasoning to know when it's time to
get serious.

I'm not saying someone should have pumped the old redneck hubby full of lead...what took place was the right way to do it.
But it did underscore the FACT that 9-1-1, and the police, are a 50-50 bet at best, and if they're on break or swamped with calls, you're just s*** outta luck.

At that point I have nothing left to lose, except the people I love. Second Amendment here I come.

Can't help but play out that whole situation with the drunk carrying a gun on his romp, letting a bullet out pace the wife & taking out the tackler as he dove toward him...then perhaps shooting out some windows of curious gawkers. Guns...gotta love the whole range of possibilities, don't ya. Even drunks have the right I 'spose.

Senator, are ya saying the Supreme Court only matters if it makes the "right" decision...the one you want? Is there no judicious judging allowed of the judges on our constitutionally established high court?

Well, it looks like the supreme court isn't going to bite into this one. I heard on the radio that they turned the case down.

The Supreme Court interprets our laws it does not make them.
