Out of curiousity (ie, because I don't know the answer): deportation to...where? The other side of the nearest border? Their home country?
If I'm a Brit who has overstayed my visa for, let's say, five years, and I'm working (illegally) in New York City -- will you fly me home?
If I'm Vietnamese?

Deportation is not the answer. Cutting funding off is: Heavily penalize the employer out of existence.

If I'm Vietnamese? Naturally there would be some problems and ambiguities. In most cases it is clear. And yes, you get a free ticket home. And possibly you go on some list and if you come back then you go to jail.... perhaps we could even pay your native country to keep you in jail

Deportation is not the answer. Cutting funding off is: Heavily penalize the employer out of existence. That is what I said Deportation. As others have posted, the primary problem is hiring illegal workers. Deportation is only a "punishment" for people illegally in the country--- which is the question this thread began with.

i actually feel that deportation is a financial burden for U.S. taxpayers. Let those who come here illegally figure out a way to get back home - once they can no longer get jobs.

Gays with Aids are a financial burden for U.S. taxpayers. Let those get aids figure out a way to cure themselves - once they can no longer get jobs.

I agree Emma.
I think we ought to remove the cruel laws making legal entry so hard and encourage people to come. then pump millions of $$ back into their countries that we have devastated by our policies penalize the corporations for tax fraud and make them pay them a living wage

Gays with Aids are a financial burden for U.S. taxpayers. Let those get aids figure out a way to cure themselves - once they can no longer get jobs. In America, there is no universal healthcare. Either you have insurance or you don't. If you don't, no medicine. Taxpayers don't pay for medication of others. Additionally, it is illegal to fire someone or prevent someone with AIDS to hold a job. It's a part of the Americans Disabilities Act that President Clinton signed into law.

and you can tell the difference how exactly? 1. The lack of English spoken. There is no way a person can go through the American educational system and not speak English - with the only exception to this caveat being President George W. Bush - Mr Bush does speak enough English to get by, however. Legal immigrants learn English pretty much right-away through ESL classes: English as a Second Language as EmmaG has pointed out. 2. Behavior. Standing on the street waiting for work to find you. Legal residence simply go out and look for a job or mail resumes around. 3. Lack of social security card. New borns are required to have one. Moe: You know what really aggravazes me? It's them immigants. They wants all the benefits of living in Springfield, but they ain't even bother to learn themselves the language. Homer: Hey, those are exactly my sentimonies. Barney: [babbles] Moe: Yeah, you said it Barn. life imitating stupidity
