toots - I want to make sure I understand what you were saying:
You're suggesting the article was planted by the Clinton campaign (or someone associated with the campaign) in order to make women so angry they would vote Clinton just out of anger, is that correct?
If that was the case, would it not have been better to plant an article in the Washington Post prior to the Potomac primaries, rather than a month after? Yes, but they run a campaign about as well as they can drive a car.

admit it ladies, the OB syndrome, well, it's devastatingly viral... LOL I have never swooned in my life...lusted after yes...swooned over; no I have to say I resent the implication that my support for Obama stems from my nether regions rather than my brain. I don't even think the first part of the article was correct and it went downhill from there. While there is an emotional difference between men and women, that doesn't translate into my inability to think intellectually. I especially resented her assessment of woman who enjoyed reading "Love, Eat, Pray" a book she seems to have competedly missed the point of. Not only that but her failure to truly understand the complexity that is woman, shows a shallowness which speaks more of her character then of those she seems willing to diminish. Shame on the Washington Post for publishing such drivel. I'm sure the point was to incite those emotional women. I don't know if some jackass was getting his jollies reading the responses or not but my respect for the Post has diminshed even farther. Not that there was much left anyway.

Would the WaPo have published a column that contained just half of the stereotypical remarks this one contained if the stereotypes were racist? We all know they wouldn't. controversy sells newspapers, no such thing as bad publicity, many of the readers of right wong blogs and bloviators are the "librul" targets of much invective. ahh the old reverse psychology

I would agree with you, Schlack, but we're not talking blogs here, we're talking a major American newspaper. And this article isn't controversial - it's the sexist, print equivalent of Amos 'n' Andy.
If they wanted controversy, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of topics they might have selected simply from the area of "women's issues." They could even do it in a way that was both informative and entertaining. This article is neither.
And someone just reminded me - would anyone care to "compare and contrast" this supposed swooning over Obama with the wolf whistles and general "va-va-voom" silliness on this site whenever Elizabeth Kucinich is pictured/mentioned?

2wins, I'm not at all saying this woman should be supressed.
I'm saying an article like this doesn't deserve publication, particularly as a serious piece, in a national newspaper. "Allow the absurdity to flourish?" Why waste the column space?
The Post editor has been reported as saying "well, we didn't really mean to publish it as a serious article, really, kindof" - but they haven't gone any further than that, either, and they haven't labelled the piece as anything other than "opinion."
2wins, this writer is not stating any opinion other than the one that women are dumb. There is no need to squash that opinion, but neither is there a reason to publish it, either.

Mick's 2 cents - It ain't that big of a deal. Sexism exists. I kinda knew that before the article was written. Mountain, molehill and all that.
