Redheat, it seems to me that is reverse genderism. Israel has a draft that includes women as do other countries. Differences in how people are deployed can be made on bases other than gender -- strength, intelligence, experience, etc.

Good point, but I think we have discovered this country has it's own mindset. Could the US Military do the same as Israel? yes possibly eventually, but I still think we have to evolve a bit more.

According to Amnesty International, and other women’s rights groups working with it on this campaign, there has been an alarming rise in the number of rapes and sexual assaults against women in uniform, especially in Iraq. Who is raping American women soldiers in Iraq? Not Baath party loyalists, or the Al Queada terrorists allegedly pouring into the country – but their fellow American soldiers!

Dozens of women in uniform serving in the Middle East have reported being raped or sexually assaulted by their fellow soldiers. Advocacy groups, based on the number of women who have contacted them reporting rape but who haven’t reported it to the military, suggest that actual number of women in uniform being raped is in fact much, much higher.

The latrine for female soldiers at Camp Victory wasn't located near their barracks, so they had to go outside if they needed to use the bathroom. "There were no lights near any of their facilities, so women were doubly easy targets in the dark of the night," Karpinski told retired U.S. Army Col. David Hackworth in a September 2004 interview.

It was there that male soldiers assaulted and raped women soldiers. So the women took matters into their own hands. They didn't drink in the late afternoon so they wouldn't have to urinate at night. They didn't get raped. But some died of dehydration in the desert heat, Karpinski said.

Given again that this is a story being ignored there is not a pluthera of articles, but there are enough to suggest it is a huge problem. I doubt very much if Isarel or the other countries who draft women would be willing to release their stats of females soliders being raped or abused... but I'd like to see them.
