Following is an email I received today. It's an introduction to an article on race. According to a quick Google, the author, Tim Wise, is the Director of the newly-formed Association for White Anti-Racist Education (AWARE) in Nashville, Tennessee. This article is my first introduction to him. The article is traveling through the black community here in the Midwest, and I thought it might be of interest here.

It's a long article; I've read it once, quickly, but I think it's worth another, slower read.

Quote
Family, Friends and Neighbors:

Barack Obama has encouraged the Nation to have a conversation - this time an honest one - about race and what it means in society.

Here is a commentary by a white guy, Tim Wise, that is a strong beginning in that conversation. It is a long, difficult read, but one well worth the effort, in my own opinion.

You may or may not enjoy reading it; you may or may not agree with what he says, but you - White, Black or otherwise - will come away with a better understanding.
