Gaza missile slams into Israeli health clinic

Quote
A senior Israeli official said Iran was helping militants improve the range of their rockets and that it was "only a matter of months" before rockets could hit far deeper into Israeli territory.

"Once Iran helps them to master the art of building longer-range rockets, they will fire them from inside Gaza where it will be almost impossible to find them," he said.

Hamas praised the attack and said that the longer range of the strike "proved that Israel's defence doctrine had failed." The group's armed wing warned Israel against "committing any foolish acts in response."

"Only a matter of months" he said. A clue as to when this will play out?

Late October of this year, as in "before the presidential election".

September or October, especially if there's some other national crisis to distract attention. The dems may not have given Bush the green light, but they certainly haven't discouraged him, either. That way the dems can blame it on the previous Administration.

Maybe blockade Iran? Nah, we'll bomb 'em. A blockade won't get their oil.

I just saw Chertoff making statements that Hezbollah is the greatest threat to US national security. How long will it take for the war mongers to connect the dots and use this as additional ammo in support of their case to attack Iran?

I am rather curious however that since Hezbollah is an anti-Zionist organization, is the US planning on creating a United States of America in the ME?

Rice says no point in talking to Iran now

... unless the clerical regime changes its behavior and gives up its suspected nuclear weapons ambitions.

Does that mean she has eliminated diplomacy as an option? Would that leave only the military option? O right she was speaking to AIPAC ... she had to intimate the US would bomb Iran to make those right-wing crazies happy.

Has anyone seen anyone who has proof of Iranian pursuing nuclear weapons?

If this recent agreement, which lets the US strike any country (i.e. Iran and Syria)from Iraq, is any indication, then apparently not too much longer. How does bombing Iran serve our national interest? It will only serve to implode our economy.

It definitively serves only the national interest of Israel.

The relationship to our national interest is debatable i.e. eco-political, security etc.

Nothing is as clear cut as the Israeli scenario.

Borrowing money from foreigners to blow up other peoples' infrastructures while our own is collapsing is no way to stabilize a region and certainly isn't in our national interest.

An Israeli attack on Iranian nuclear sites looks “unavoidable” given the apparent failure of sanctions to deny Tehran technology with bomb-making potential, one of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s deputies said Friday.

“If Iran continues with its program for developing nuclear weapons, we will attack it. The sanctions are ineffective,” Transport Minister Shaul Mofaz told the mass-circulation Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper.

“Attacking Iran, in order to stop its nuclear plans, will be unavoidable,” said the former army chief who has also been defense minister.
