Not to worry, Joe. We are still under an Executive Order declaring a National Emergency on Sept 23, 2001. And as if that were not enough, Mr. Bush declared another national emergency o...curity posed by the situation in Kosovo.

This latest declaration of national emergency is inconsequential, as is Ray McGovern's 397th prediction that we will attack Iran soon. There are certain other indications however that are consequential, such as the evidence presented by Seymour Hersh in recent interviews.

strange but oil companies apparently believe the marginal price/cost of oil should be pegged at about $60-$70

they are blaming speculators for changing the market and some security analysts agree

apparently the Republicans don't mind speculators shoving a double load into the American public and the Democratics stand idly by with their thumb up their heads favorite oriface

ya don't want to hear my recomend and i definitely don't want the gestapo to hear it

Steve,

They do want they want to do- or are told to do- for the most part. What worries me about the recent EO is that that they may use any Iranian link to North Korea's nuke program to bomb Iran. And, maybe they won't. I don't know, but if they're crazy enough, we've got serious problems. I read the New Yorker weekly- I like the cartoons. I'm also a big Hersh fan. Don't discount McGovern as a modern day Casandra. He probably has more inside down and dirty contacts than Hersh. We're headed for some rocky economic roads, and I don't want them using a bigger war to jump start the economy.

Ardy,

With Adm. Fallon out, Petraeus is just the right guy for such a response scenario.

Our foreign policy doesn't even rise to the level of a bad grade B movie; it's more like the script of a bad comic book, and it goes on and on and on..... The script you envision probably isn't too far removed from a possibility.

You're right though, IMHO, that any excuse will do to justify whatever policy they wish to pursue -- including claiming a bogus connection to N. Korea, who is no longer on the "axis of evil" list, who was allowed to continue their enrichment program despite divulging less than Iran has divulged of theirs, and who is arguably the more repressive and belligerent of the two.

Why? Simple. Condi Rice articulated the reason very succinctly in a recent interview. It's because N. Korea already has The Bomb. That "changes the game," Rice said.

Which might explain why any Middle Eastern country interested in self preservation in the face of Us or Israeli aggression would be racing to get one.

I suspect that this Administration has been planning an imminent attack for the last 4 years. McGovern probably did see wolves. I don't know the guy, but I doubt that he's one of those who are paid to cry wolf and spread disinformation.

Also, probably because No. Korea doesn't have oil, either.

Actually Stereo, I think we are still under an Emergency Order issued in 1940.

Why does that not surprise me?
