I'm sorry, but I found this hilarious. James Dobson accusing someone else of distorting the Bible. Talk about the soot accusing the kettle of being black. And he goes on to criticize Obama's interpretation of the Constitution. Talk about skewed. Evangelist accuses Obama of 'distorting' Bible
Quote
A top U.S. evangelical leader is accusing Sen. Barack Obama of deliberately distorting the Bible and taking a "fruitcake interpretation" of the U.S. Constitution.
....
In the speech, Obama suggests it would be impractical to govern based solely on the word of the Bible, noting some passages suggest slavery is permissible and eating shellfish is disgraceful.

"Which passages of scripture should guide our public policy?" Obama asks in the speech. "Should we go with Leviticus, which suggests slavery is OK and that eating shellfish is an abomination? Or we could go with Deuteronomy, which suggests stoning your child if he strays from the faith? Or should we just stick to the Sermon on the Mount?

"So before we get carried away, let's read our Bible now," Obama also said to cheers. "Folks haven't been reading their Bible."

A well reasoned argument is like a diamond: impervious to corruption and crystal clear - and infinitely rarer.

Here, as elsewhere, people are outraged at what feels like a rigged game -- an economy that won't respond, a democracy that won't listen, and a financial sector that holds all the cards. - Robert Reich

Dobson is a whack job and it's amazing to me that the mainstream media is giving this nut any credibility. This story is on the MSN front page with a pic of him and Obama. For the love of God even McCain in all his pandering glory discovered the need to distance himself from this fruitcake.

I guess it's a slow political news day.

It makes front page because it panders to a wide variety of reader. You have the religious fearmongers who follow the likes of Dobson. You have the conservatives that would like to see Barak Obama lose at any cost and you have the liberals who are outraged at such trite bs and can't believe newspapers would take time to publish such trash.

The real jewel is that anyone would actually listen to Dobson! LOL!

sure, you can talk to god, but if you don't listen then what's the use? so, onward through the fog!

Leviticus for Republicans. Sermon on the mount for Democrats. Psalms for the unaffiliated. The nice leather cover for all the unchurched who need something to keep away the evangelist at the door.

I, for one, am overjoyed. Mr. Dobson has finally come out and said what every minister preaching the Gospel in America should have said centuries ago. It is time to put the teachings of the Old Testament aside and focus on the teachings of our Savior. So all those biblical passages that support foreign invasions are gone. All those biblical passages about subservicence to one's husband, gone! All those biblical passages about the evils of homosexuality, gone!

Peace, Love, and Brotherhood! Thank you, Mr. Dobson, for finally outing the New Testament as a repudiation of the Old Testament!!!

Now please conform your future spittle to your message and refrain from citing the Old Testament in any but an historial passage context, and then only when also showing the New Testament context that repudiates that outdated and outmoded way of thinking.
