I don't think the thread is ugly, nor is it offensive. Rather, it's sad. You see, I've been spending time on a board populated by a lot of conservatives and what I find is a sad need to villify anything that does not jive with their political philosophies. I find many of the neo-conservative ideas to be the antithisis of my ideas, and that's the way it typically works when you have more than one party. However, I do not find it necessary to belittle an entire group, although at times I think it would be a whole helluva lot of fun. As to the savior crap, Ma, you're being disengenious here. Many of the current POTUS's followers could be called, well, just that, followers. That said, while I don't hold a particular candle for this Dem candidate, and I surely do not for the POTUS, I think it's a good sign that we have so many people (from both parties, interestingly) excited about a president. It's been a dark and cynical seven years and people need a little light. Good luck on your crusade, it only serves to belittle you, Ma. Another non-believer, I can't believe it. I have changed, I'm not the same man I was last week. Barack, the Neo-savior, has transformed my spirit and freed my soul. I have poured my soul out and all I get is disbelief. I have always voted my pocketbook. I have never felt the way I do about Barack, ever! I have seen the rallies, the throngs of people waiting on his every word, the mothers bringing their babies to him, like just being touched will change their lives. I have some questions, but overall I find I must worship the ground he stood upon and the hold dear the words he uttered. His writings MUST be submitted to the Smithstonian immediately. I used to be a Republican. I can still remember like it was last week, it was btw, the synicism I felt about this candidate. (I don't know what I was thinking!) I remember thinking to myself, after two years in the Senate he becomes a rock star> I remember thinking how absurd his denials about the Trinity Church were and how little respect for fiscal restraint he had. Silly me! now that I am a Dem, and sure to become fabulously rich, I will be able to give my Uncle Sam $40.00 out of every $100.00, it wil be but a pittance compared to the millions I will be able to sue for. I used to think that questioning the status quo was a good thing, now I know that I have to be selective with my questions. I now know that any questions about Barack H Obama, my Neo-Savior, are false and that any feeling of unease will be cured by a good speech and a virtual pat on the back, I look forward to those pats every morning. I admit I will not become a typlical Liberal leaning American overnight. I still have problems with the whole PC thing, but I have set up an empowerment booth in my livingroom with a picture of Neo in it, and every time I think an unpure thought, I look longingly at our savior and send a check to the ACLU as penence. And I will have problems with believingfor a while, although not having to worry about figuring out the truth leaves a lot of time for me to volunteer down at the green rally. Belittle is kind of a funny word, kind of like that comedy bit that goes "Makes you want to say Hmm. To many of my new blue friends, I have seen the light, but you are telling me my conversion belittles me? It kind of reminds me of the true function of the court jester. You see, the jester was the only person in the kingdom that could speak the truth to the king. His job was to inform and amuse the king. It was a dangerous job, piss the king off, and you could get beheaded, or kicked off of CHB for a few months. One of the most unknown facts about the court jester, is that he usually retired very rich, if he lived to retirement. The King always valued his insight and honesty and ability to disarm any situation. The citizenry honored him because he was their conduit to the king. It seems that history has turned the job of court jester into a job that an inferior intelect occupied, when in reality it was held by men of unusual strength and bravery. If you read today's interpritation of that job, it was a position that would belittle the occupant. I guess belittlement is in the eye of the beholder? Barack H Obama is everything we need in a Predident. He has limited experience, he has no real insight to today's problems, he is running as fast as he can away from his past. He refuses to be specific and talks in generalities in inspirational sentences. He can also see the future, he knows that those ugly Reps are going to attack his race, his religion and his wife. My God, what isn't there to admire?! His wife understands the plight of the avarage American, she can't make ends meet either, even though she makes $300,000. She can't pay back her student loans, and wants them to be forgiven, what a saint, what a role model! It is a shame I have already grown up, because if I hadn't would want to marry a girl just like her.

Ma cannot become a member of the club until he learns to spell. Died in the wool sounds ominously like a Bushism. And if he's going to use Bushism's, he cannot be a member.
(Note to Ma: try dyed in the wool) Sometimes the fingers move faster than the mind, and I am lost without spell check. Could I become an associate member? dont worry about the spelling, member whose comppanny your in

Just when I thought I would relapse, Barack comes to the rescue. It seems that Barack, my Neo-savior, has decided to take the offensive on the whole patriotism issue. As a newly minded left leaning American, I can't waste my time thinking about such issues as national security and patriotism, Neo has convinced me that there is no need for that. The Republicans in Congress have made all that terrorism stuff up, imagine I used to give them credit for 7 years of relative safety here in America, what was I thinking? It seems that my Neo-savior Barack, I sent him an email and asked his permission to call him by his first name, has taken the issue head on by declaring that he would never challenge anybody's patriotism, and will not stand idly by when they challenge his! Imagine that, another moment of future sight, he knows what will happen in the future. (God, opps non-denominational being of infinite power, what a guy!)
It really is fun being a left leaning Dem, I can be as adoring of celebrity as I was before, only it can be openly sycophantic now. I can think of Utopia, and all the nice thoughts that go with Utopia, knowing we are perfectly safe from those theoretical terrorists who live too far away to threaten the United States, and I don't have to wear all that patriotic jewlery I used to wear when I was on the dark side. It used to make me look so cool, but it made me fail my weigh ins at Weight Watchers.
Barack, my savior, if I could only be with you today! Imagine how great it would be to actually shake his hand? I would never wash that hand again. (Unsanitary I know, but how could I possibly wash it after it touched Barack H Obama, my neo-savior?)

I used to be a Republican. OMG! You really have converted! Uncle Ma's converted rice . . . Once there was a court jester who pi$$ed off the King so badly, that he was sentenced to die, but with one last gesture of good humor, the King allowed the jester to name his own cause of death. Without hesitation (for after all, jesters are renowned not merely for their wit, but for their quick wit), he replied "old age".
