Well, you could always try to convince as many of your conservative friends as possible to support Barr! Try explaining McCain's positions on amnesty for illegal immigrants to them. That should do it.

I have always voted, and this year will be no exception. This year I will vote Democratic ticket, as I have done every election year, because the Republicans have never put up a better candidate than the Democratic candidate.

Likewise on a national stage, but not so on a statewide/local scene. Often our moderate Republicans are more realistic than the Dem sacricrificial Dems (all the way up ta guv) put forth to challenge them just to fullfil the party ticket.

I'm presently going to a new gym temporarily because my old gym went out of business but the owner was able to work a deal at this new place where they would honor our remaining contract time (for a small additional price...not bad really). It's a place where it's common to see shirt with the above written on it and things like..."I you want peace, we must prepare for war".....

I don't think voting for the candidate who best suits your beliefs is 'throwing your vote away'. Your vote is your opinion and that is always valid.

Yes, I agree, Bob. I voted for a Republican school board member once.

olyve, my friend, I respectfully disagree with you about a vote being an opinion. An opinion is a tool for debate and dialogue, but a vote is an action that has consequences. An example is the Supreme Court. The vote determines the outcome; the opinion is the rationale of how they arrived at their vote.

I see your point, Emma, but I still say that my vote is my opinion of who I think is best suited for the office in question.
Do votes have consequences? Absolutely. At least in battle ground state they do.
two things.
If, my state were to tighten up and Obama look like he would actually stand a chance of taking Georgia, the rest of the country would be so overwhelmingly for him that I STILL could vote my conscious and not upset his chances.

The other thing is, I wonder what this country would look like if everybody voted for their first choice every time.

Pardon me if you have read this quote from Alan Greenspan before, (he proposed it as a constitutional amendment) but I think it is apropos to the dilemma we face in choosing our next president. Our current election process is such that no viable candidate feels free to say anything of consequence, but rather only babble meaningless drivel and platitudes. Otherwise whoever the candidate may be will be ripped to shreds by the opposing party for having the audacity (ha ha) to talk about something real, and something that may actually require a little sacrifice from the US electorate.

It's still early, there are months left before I need to worry about the choice. Neither of the major party candidates appeal to me, so I have no idea at the moment if I will "hold my nose" to vote for one of them or go third party.

Obama, even though he is kinda pissing me off with some of his movements to the middle. However the alternative is a throw away vote or a Bush Lite vote, neither of those are very appealling. Plus I've supported Obama since 2004.
