The only Hummers that get 30 miles per gallon are diesel powered, and modified by competent mechanics like Kansas City's own
Jonathan Goodwin. A stock Hummer H-1, like the one originally popularized by Ahh-nold der Guvernator, gets nine miles per gallon and has about two hundred horsepower. H-2 and H-3 models are all gasoline powered, an enormous mistake but typical of G-M's historically lazy approach.

Since they couldn't get the H-1's diesel to meet new pollution standards they simply scrapped the entire line for retail and "went running home to Momma" by plopping an ordinary 5.7 liter V-8 GM truck motor into a pussified Detroit built gasoline version, a candy-assed Hummer, if you will.

The H-2 gets even worse mileage than the H-1 when you stick your foot to the floor, almost ONE mile per gallon!

The H-3 fancies itself as the responsible citizen at a blistering 18 miles per gallon on the freeway.

But take a look at what is possible if you tweak a 6.6 liter G-M Duramax diesel V-8.

Kansas City's Jonathan Goodwin has a few vehicles he'd like you to look at:
