I don't believe that the ACLU is the champion of the US Constitution that they purport to be, but rather have their own agenda. For example, my neighbor told me that the ACLU badgered them because they wanted to represent them in court against drug charges. I described their arrests in the "Who's Watching Big Brother?" thread. Before my neighbors' arrests, I contacted ACLU officials in Miami, Tallahasse, and NYC for help with illegal law enforcement surveillance of my residence either directly or else advising me as a pro se. My neighbor told me that they decided to stay with their own criminal attorney (a wise decision). Following their arrest and later case dismissal, I contacted the ACLU again. I finally got an email answer from an ACLU paralegal: No. The ACLU wouldn't help me even in an advisory capacity. Two Presidents, one VP,and a number of US Reps and Senators regarded me as credible (regarding some other surveillance stuff which I videotaped and photographed), yet I had all that I could do to get a simple reluctant reply from the ACLU, which is strange, considering they badgered my neighbors relentlessly. Moreover, shortly after the NSA spying scandal broke, the ACLU Forums messageboard went down and I believe that it's still down. Why? Software problems? I had been posting about government spying at the time. In my layman's opinion, I'd guess that the ACLU could possibly have a postive national impact in my case regarding privacy and government surveillance, harassment, and abuse if they wanted. So why no interest? I realize that the ACLU is swamped with complaints and this stuff goes on all the time and they don't have the funds or time to represent everyone, but you'd think that they would at least be curious.
So what's the ACLU agenda? If I were some poor terrorists, drug dealer, or illegal alien the ACLU would be venting their outrage all over the place, but nary a word or help when an average American's rights are egregiously and repeatedly violated. Why?

The ACLU has posted a Surveillance Society Clock which reads "11:54." I've got news for the ACLU: It's after midnight, the lights are out, and the front door is locked. Unfortunately, the ACLU Forums went down as the NSA spying scandal broke and are still down. If the ACLU Forums were up, however, I'd post the following: CERTIFIED MAIL RETURN RECEIPT REQUESTED #7006 0100 0004 4316 7461
The Office of the Attorney General The Capitol, PL-01, Tallahassee, Florida 32399-1050 Fax: 850-410-1630 Dear Attorney General McCollum, Pursuant to Title 18 U.S.C. Sec. 4, I’m notifying you in your official capacity as Florida’s Attorney General of official misconduct and illegal interception of wire, oral, and electronic communications by the FDLE and the Holmes County Sheriff’s Department. In addition, I am charging State Attorney Steve Meadows and Chief Assistant State Attorney William A. Lewis with covering up the FDLE’s and Holmes County Sheriff’s Department official misconduct by refusing to investigate my charges and the evidence that I provided. On former Gov. Jeb Bush’s suggestion, I forwarded evidence of this illegal electronic surveil-lance to my State Attorney. SA Meadows never acknowledged or replied to the evidence that I provided or any of my communications. Assistant State Attorney Lewis eventually replied to a Public Records Request, which Mr. Meadows ignored. However, in a letter, dated 12-6-06, Mr. Lewis wrote: “All inquiries by this office have failed to substantiate any of your claims. Absent any credible evidence this office is closing our file.” Chief Assistant State Attorney Lewis is lying in order to cover up official misconduct by Florida Law Enforcement Officers. Electronic surveil-lance experts indicated that audio phenomenon recorded in the VHS videotape that I provided as one piece of evidence was indicative of electronic surveillance. Other evidence provided corrobo-rates my charges on the face of it. In response to a 12-16-06 Public Records Request for the closed file containing records of his “inquiries,” Mr. Lewis only provided: a copy of my Public Records Request and some earlier correspondence. He did not supply any records or references to the evidence that I provided. JoAnn Carrin, Director of Open Government, EOG, indicated that these issues are appropriate for the OAG Open Government Mediation Program. In response to my request for Open Mediation regarding the SAO’s inadequate response, Assistant Attorney General Joslyn Wilson wrote Mr. Lewis on 8-28-07 requesting that he notify her by 9-5-07 if the SAO wished to participate in this voluntary program. On 9-12-07, Assistant Attorney General Wilson closed my mediation case file because Assistant State Attorney Lewis had not replied to her. Mr. Lewis did not reply because he is lying and covering-up official misconduct by FL law enforcement. If I had known beforehand that you were to be the keynote speaker at the Bonifay Republican Reagan Day Dinner on 9-6-07, I would have attended in order to discuss this official misconduct and provide you with the same evidence that the SAO refuses to address. Since I missed this recent opportunity, I would like to either present this evidence to you personally or else forward it. Please reply by 10-5-07. Thank you. Regards, Joe Keegan

Why? It certainly is not a perfect organization (as opposed to the American Enterprise Institute?). However, after sending in my membership renewal this week, I still maintain that it is about all that is left between those of us who dissent from the White House Party line and a midnight knock at the door.

If the ACLU Forums were up, however, I'd post the following: And you'd be getting waterboarded in Guantanamo faster than you could say, "Alberto Gonzalez".

Unfortunately, the ACLU is about all tht is left for those of us on all sides of the political spectrum who disagree with this Administration's policies. They are the only ones doing anything. I'm even considering joining. I can't believe that the so-called "conservatives" not only let Pres. Bush get away with his legalization of the new American fascist police state, but actually supported it. Let's see how these same republicans respond when Hillary uses the police state that she'll inherit from this Administration. Joe
