I hope you'll find this a stimulating interesting civil place to voice your ideas. I not sure I'm following your comments though. Can you clarify? Olyve Ranter/Moderator

Driving a car is a priviledge.Which means if you break the laws your licence can be taken away.Owning a gun is a right given to us as americans.Beccuse we have these documents called The BILL OF RIGHTS and the CONSTITUTION.We are the only Country in the world that has these documents. These documents are what is under fire.Without this BILL of RIGHTS OR the CONSTITUTION we are nobody.

The NRA likens licensing, etc restrictive and against the spirit of the 2nd Admentment.
Americans have the "right" to own cars - but the government sets restrictions on how it can be driven, the necessary requirements to drive, and the necessary financial reserve needed in case of an accident (aka Insurance)
Guns are no different than a car - sure you can have one, but its perfectly 'ok' for the government to set guidelines to having one.
...so take THAT NRA! Driving a car is a priviledge.Owning a gun is a right.

Driving a car is not a right it is a priviledge.Owning a gun is a right. This is were people get it wrong. ....so do you mean, that because the Constitution/Bill of Rights mentions 'arms', that makes it a right unlike driving a car, which isn't mentioned in same document? also.... Driving a car is a priviledge.Which means if you break the laws your licence can be taken away.Owning a gun is a right given to us as americans.Beccuse we have these documents called The BILL OF RIGHTS and the CONSTITUTION. do you mean that the 'right' to have a gun means we don't have to have laws governing them unlike the 'privilege' of driving a car? Life member of the "NRA" Get a "CLUE" a clue about what? I'm not sure where your anger came from, RB (at least that is what you sound like to me) but the debate concerning guns/bearing arms in America is an old one. Can you agree that there is room for and reason for difference of opinion here? Saying the Bill of Rights is all powerful is a bit much for me.

I hate this whole car conversation with right to bear arms. It doesn't make any sense to me. I can drive to a store, nobody cares. If I walk down the street with a shotgun, I become a subject of conversation. Never mind the fact that I walked, saving the earth and all. I am now one up from a drag queen show during a church service.
Next time you want to make a comparison, ask yourself if you neighbor getting a new AR-15 is the same as him or her waving at you from the carpool lane on the 405? I am much more scared of one over the other because fuel prices are just not high enough.
Cheers

It seems that in life some people "GET IT" and some people "DON'T".I have spent long periods of time in foreign countries.I have seen first hand how these people are treated by there governments. The only people that have freedoms have money.Money well buy you what ever you need or want.I think every american should spend some time in a 3rd world country. It well open your eyes to the fact that big government is not good.So AS all you liberals Preach gun control,no drilling for oil, stop cutting down trees, ect.Pull off the blinders and get the fact that our government well not be there for us.Do any of you remember the Rodney King riots?I was living 5 miles from that mess.LAPD was not answering the phone. We were on our own.People who voted for the "BRADY ACT" Went to gun stores in the LA area to purches a gun to protect them selves and there familes. They were told they had to wait 15 days to get there gun."DO YOU GET IT YET"?Im not as you say "ANGRY" "I GET IT"

RB1, frankly anger turns me off. On the issue, I too lived in Los Angeles during the riots and never thought a gun would make me any safer. I lived 1 mile from one outbreak.
In a city having a gun gives the illusion of security but not the reality. Just ask a cop.
I have been to many third world nations and found that the economic power issue may be magnified there but not substantially different from in the US. Power goes to money everywhere.
