Canadian beheading victim's family asks to grieve in peace A sentiment I share. Why is this news? Why is it taking up so many pages of responses? It is sad, it is rare, it is unfortunate, but is it newsworthy? I don't see it as a topic of levity or gloming on tangential prejudices to make a point. It just happened. And nothing anyone on the bus did would have made a difference to the victim, or likely change the possibility for any future victims of similar attacks. I suspect we will find that the attacker suffers from untreated schizophrenia, but that won't change the reality of the families involved who have lost a loved one senselessly.

A well reasoned argument is like a diamond: impervious to corruption and crystal clear - and infinitely rarer.

Here, as elsewhere, people are outraged at what feels like a rigged game -- an economy that won't respond, a democracy that won't listen, and a financial sector that holds all the cards. - Robert Reich
