I too agree with your assessment of the US position on the US attacking Iran. But, I often wonder if those that make these final decisions, really have the best interests of the US, or the world for that matter, in mind at all.

Kuwait seems to think so.A blockade is an act of war. I suspect that things didn't go as anticipated in Georgia.

I relied on a story in the ME Times that Kuwait was preparing for war. I didn't doubt the story for a minute, because there's still a bill for such an action in Congress. It seems that the only question remaining for the "Honorables" is whether Iran is bombed before or after the election.

US to invade Iran any day now? Gas station lines were backed up into the streets yesterday in anticipation of the effects Ike would have on per gallon prices. The $4.50+/gal. ain't nothing compared to what you'll see if Iran is attacked. How does such an illegal and immoral act benefit the USA?

OK...here's what we have so far...Wall Street and the rest of the world's economy is in the crapper (and the flush handle is about to be pulled), gas prices are still obscenely high despite significant drops in the price of crude oil, Iran is stubbornly pursuing its nuclear programs in the face of international sanctions. a presidential election is upcoming and the Republican/Neocon establishment is on shaky ground, and Bush's approval ratings are lower than whale feces. For a vain and shallow man like Bush, can you think of a better time to attempt a rescue of his legacy by trumping up an incident and launching a "retaliatory" attack against Iranian military and nuclear assets?

I am very fearful of what that man might do in the next few weeks.

It might be more economic than ego. Nothing like a war to jump start a collapsing economy. Pakistan may also be on the agenda.

I think at this point, Pakistan is far more likely than Iran. On the surface it appears a safer choice: Russia has not promised to come to Pakistan's aid, Pakistan's government is far less stable, and its military far less capable. Furthermore, a war in Pakistan is not the same thing as a war against Pakistan, it's more like a war despite Pakistan.

The Bush Administration will not attack a formidable foe. We have the examples of N. Korea and Russia in our recent memories.

Iran is a formidable foe, and in case anybody hasn't been paying attention, they have another formidable ally right next door, where some 300,000 US citizens are currently residing. if the Bush Administration were interested in playing Russian Roulette with Nouri al Maliki's loyalties, I predict the first shot would be in Iran's favor, and deeply injurious.

You're probably right. However, any attack on Iran will escalate things. I wonder what Israel intends to do with those bunker buster bombs that the US sold them?
