ROFL, Snargle. Best laugh of the morning, and I've had a few.
Good points Ardy. I asked the question on another thread: how much is enough? I believe we have been indoctrinated, even brainwashed, as a society into constant lusting after more stuff, feeling personally inadequate if we don't have things - because long ago Madison Avenue figured out that's a surer way to sell things that simply on their merits.
I've noticed, over the years, that people who avoid commercial media have much less of this lust for stuff. For them - I should include myself and say "us" - there is still the notion that "less is more" and "live simply so others can simply live."
But boy are we a minority!

If "free-markets" are so good for the economy - why did the U.S. government "seize" Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae over the weekend? Clearly industry can't be looked upon to regulate itself. This is the housing market's third black mark since the 1980s - how many times are we going to allow industries to run amok? Need we be reminded of the energy industry's shenanigans just eight years ago? How much government do we want? We can't have the government that Republicans want - as this post shows. We need government oversight of industry. Please don't tell me that you actually believe that Fannie/Freddie were "free-market" corporations, they were government chartered and sponsored corporations, about as far from "free-market" as you can get. We have been fighting the wrong thing folks, it is not the "free-market" that is the problem, it is corruption that is the problem. Corruption in HIGH PLACES, including the government that provides "favors" "privilege" and an un-level playing field. We don't have a "free-market" and haven't for decades. Eventually, we will see just how a managed economy can crash, and we will all pay the price for the massive government intervention into the markets.
