It has now happened. George Bush has so mishandled his presidency that the Dow closed today below where it stood when he took office nearly 8 years ago. U.S. Market On Close Wrap-up for Monday, September 29th The Dow closed down -777.68 to 10,365.45, the Nasdaq closed down -199.61 to 1,983.73 and the S&P 500 closed down -106.85 to 1,106.42. CURRENCY: U.S. dollar strength closed down -1.82% against the Yen and down -0.51% against the Euro. COMMODITIES: Light Crude Oil closed down -10.52 to 96.37. Natural Gas closed down -0.41 to 7.22. Gold closed up +5.90 to 894.40. Keeping an eye on the Dow I think the magic (tragic?) number is 10,587.59. That's the closing number from Jan. 20, 2001, the day George Bush was sworn into office.
A well reasoned argument is like a diamond: impervious to corruption and crystal clear - and infinitely rarer.
Here, as elsewhere, people are outraged at what feels like a rigged game -- an economy that won't respond, a democracy that won't listen, and a financial sector that holds all the cards. - Robert Reich
