You know what the problem with Pelosi's speech was? It gave people who were willing to take one for the team an excuse not to.

Last week I complimented Pelosi's use of poolitical power, I take that back. She is a moron on the scale of GW Bush. As anybody who has ever had anybody report them them knows, do not piss somebody off when you are asking them toi do you a favor. She pissed off enough people, who didn't want to vote for this anyway, to allow them to vote NAY.

Thank you Nancy! I could almost kiss you!!!

Pelosi, like Mao in his last days, has achieved the status of a "dead ancestor". I think you'd have to be rather naive to actually blame her for the failure.

In any case, I'm grateful for the failure whatever the reason(s).

I think I saw a blurb on the news late last night - while the usual talking heads were picking over the carcass - indicating that only six (6) Republicans voting NO! were in difficult elections this year. Further, I believe that the polls say the bail-out was strongly opposed in all of these districts.

I would like to see a chart or something showing how many of those that voted NO are up for re-election this year.
Unless the rules have changed quite recently, I think that you'll find that all of the House is up for election every time.

Whatever the reason(s), I'm still appreciative of those who had the stones to oppose what was a really bad bill.

I do agree that it was a bad bill. Congress has a tough time doing anything right, and when you also rush the process it does an even worse job.

However, something needs to be done. Whether we like it or not we live in a world of credit. If the world does not have confidence in the banks then it's not too far from runs on banks and total chaos on the streets.

Local Bay Area talk radio. Gill Gross, formerly of ABC Network News is now at KGO 8.10 a.m. - San Francisco, and as a result of his previous jobs is very well connected to savvy analysts, stated such on his 2 hour program yesterday.

Which thread are you referring to stereoman?

This one, rick

Sorry, I don't consider talk radio a "reliable source". Actually, not sorry.

They're Congresspeople, they're all up for re-election, no matter how they voted.

Hmmm.. wasn't too sure on how often house representatives are re-elected... I just knew that in Senate 1/3 is up for re-election ever 2 years.
